No doubt about it. I don't know what the Nintendo people are smoking, but I doubt the Mario Sunshine commercial will make anyone buy the game... BUT...as we all know, Mario games will sell like thunder even if there are no commercials. I'm buying it. You're buying it. We're all buying it. I also recommend Gamecube, but I'm an extreme Nintendo loyalist. Can't wait for Metroid, Zelda, Star Fox...maybe even Earthbound, if we're lucky!

I think you mean Animal Crossing. Animal Leader is now being called Cubivore for the US, and isn't coming out until the end of the month.
And how could you list Monkey Ball in your list of good exclusive games, and NOT mention Monkey Ball 2, which comes out the same day as Mario?
Yeah. They've changed that thing's title so many times that you can't keep track anymore. (Although, to be fair, the real Animal Leader also looks *interesting*. I wouldn't say "good", but interesting...)
And they're porting Earthbound, Zelda 3, Super Metroid and Super Mario RPG to the GBA at some point in the next year, which is reason enough to buy one of those...

With that said, Nintendo has some...well...issues with their games. They have a winner building so far, and they're gaining a more normal reputation with releasing MATURE games that rock (RE was so fantastic), yet all of a sudden I see that Super Mario Sunshine crap. And I shook my head in shame, whatever steps releasing an uber-pwn'd Resident Evil did for them, they just took back with that. Who are they trying to market the game to, children of hippies?! Who wouldn't have children, anyway, since they love sex and abortion so much.
* My nagging doubt as to whether "mature-themed" titles like ED and RE foreshadow a wave of similar games, or if they're going to be anomalies in the GC lineup.*
It's true, going on Nintendo's past rep, that this may end up being just anomalies but I truly believe things are going to finally step up a notch and we'll be seeing more stuff like that. Or maybe it's the rambling of a loyal Nintendo fan who had to live through 64 being held back because of Nintendo's insistance on releasing shite like "Banjo & Kazooie" (and Square's backstab)...though, if you'll note, at the very end of 64's run before Gamecube, the best game EVER was released for it: Conker's Bad Fur Day. So I think signs are pointing to Nintendo finally dropping their little kiddie crap, although they are still going to try and retain that demo with idiotic stuff like Sunshine and what they're doing to Zelda for Gamecube.
So what if Gamecube "can't hook up to the PC"? THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT SYSTEMS!!! A Gamecube is like an entire friggin PC, utilized *just for playing games*. A regular PC is for just a tad more than focusing all it's bytes and power on games. Plus, I'd rather stay out of the plans of Microsoft and Sony to take over the world, thanks.

Was it originally called Animal Forest or Animal Village or something? Some kind of real-time interaction game where you live the complete life of a cute fuzzy animal? That actually looks cool.

Having all three systems, I can honestly say GameCube get's nearly ALL of my videogaming time.
PS2 has good games, but nothing that's held my attention for as long as the GameCube games have. Sure there's GTA3 and Final Fantasy, but those can only last so long.
Xbox. *Sigh* Umm... As soon as a good game comes out for that system I'll get back to you. I won Raw, Halo, and Dead or Alive 3. The only reason I still own Raw is because I use it as a WWE Entrance Theme DVD when I'm bored.
GameCube rules it all, especially the WaveBird controller. There's so many good games for this system it isn't even funny. When my friends come over it isn't four player Halo or Smackdown 3 we play, it's Soccer Slam, Beach Spikers, and SMASH BROTHERS MELEE!

I prefer the Xbox. I love sports games, sports games take tons of memory, the Xbox has a hard drive. It was that easy for me. On my PS2 memory card last year i could fit one Madden franchise, one NCAA franchise, a few draft classes, and not much else. On the Xbox right now I could save more than 200 franchises and still have tons of room left. It amazes me every time i see a $30 memory card.
Halo is a very good single player game, and an incredible multiplayer game.
There are lots of other reasons to buy an Xbox, but those were mine. Any of the three systems would be a fine choice though.
The wrestling games (Raw, Smackdown, X-8) were all bad. Very bad. I hope they get better.

No, but you could off of a Dreamcast...
Not only that, but Dreamcast online play is FREE until the end of the year!
when they will then take all the Dreamcast servers offline. *sniff*

If Toejam and Earl 3 doesn't get your blood pumping you better check yourself for a pulse. Also, the time distorting cat game looks pretty good.
All in all, I chose Gamecube first and if PS3 is REALLY coming in 2004 I'll probably go X Box next. I'd say snatch a GC and wait for the price wars to start this Christmas.

I can't say I thought much of the first two. Besides, this game claims to have the funk but has NO BOOTSY, NO P-FUNK, NO MOTHERSHIP. If you fake the funk, your nose WILL grow.
(For the Xbox crew, I will say this: enjoy Dead to Rights. I'm looking forward to that this winter.)

I have been trying to figgur out which one to buy (XBOX/PS2), and after this friggin thread, I still can't decide. I will probably only have 3 or 4 games (love the XBOX NHL game, Crazy Taxi, Test Drive, and a couple others) for either system, and would like to have it as a DVD player too. Now I have a PS1, and I guess it might be cool to have the PS2 to play the ones I have now.....but why the eff would I want to play PS1 games when I am shelling out the major duckets for a PS2 or XBOX?

Because they probably aren't coming out with Tony Hawk 1 or 2 for the PS2 (as far as I know)? Or, if you're so inclined, you've got 10 different DDR games? (shrug)
Guru Zim: I tried to get on with a Dreamcast using my school's remote access, but that didn't work. Ah well, that's what my computer's for.

Zelda 3 and Earthbound I've heard of going over to the GBA. They aren't bringing Super Metriod, but rather METRIOD FUSION, which will be a BETTER game than Super Metriod (yes, I did just say that). And please tell me you're confusing Yoshi's Island: Super Mario World 2 with Mario RPG. Because if Mario RPG is being carted over to the GBA then....well, I guess there's ONE MORE GAME TO BUY.
jfkfc, if memory is of any concern to you, you should prolly go with the xbox. Second choice would be the Cube. Yes, I know that the memory cards that Nintendo puts out only hold 59 blocks, but there is a third party mega memory card that has worked VERY well for me during my gaming experience. There's enough space on that friggin thing to hold ten Madden franchises with room to spare.
In a bit of irony, two days after I posted that my xbox has never given me problems, it decided to shit the bed on me. And not a clean shit... VERY messy. Thank god for warranties. Their customer service is pretty good, and if your xbox is under warranty, they send you a package next day air to put your busted xbox in. You put your reciept in with the packing slip, and mail it out airborne express. Then in two days, your xbox is back on the shelf, working just as it did right out of the box. All for free. So, if you DO wind up getting the xbox, spend the extra loot and up the warranty on that sucka, it's SOOOO worth it. If I didn't have it, there would have been a $100 flat fee to fix it...

Humorously enough, my Xbox busted too. Unfortunately, getting it at Christmas time means that it was no longer under warranty. So, yeah, Microsoft wanted me to send them $100 and they said it would take about a month to fix and send back. Right...

Ouch. That sounds pretty ominous. I have been starting to lean enough towards the PS2, but I am thinking that a month or two down the road, I will still be salivating for an Xbox...

I may be mistaken on Super Metroid, but I definitely mean Mario RPG. I rented it when it was first released for the Super NES and it was so easy I beat it before it was due back and never bothered to buy a copy of it, so as soon as every copy on the planet disappeared, I had a HUGE jones to play that game again.
