Tentative plans for the 2008 DVD schedule from the WWE
2/12: The Legacy of Stone Cold Steve Austin (which I believe was supposed to be a November 2007 release)
3/25: Triple H - King of Kings
5/6: Evolution of the Hardys
6/3: The Rock
7/8: Best of Starrcade (This one has potential.I am curious to see what they say about the Starrcade 87 debacle)
8/5: Summerslam anthology (20 disc set)
8/5: The life and times of Mr. Perfect (Another one with potential)
11/4: Edge
11/18: Randy Savage - Macho Madness (color me surprised)
12/9: Sting (Odd, considering he just upped with TNA)
We shall see how this changes/evolves over the coming months. I am curious to see if the Macho Man one is another hit piece and very surprised about the decision to do a DVD on Sting, considering he's with the competition.

That Summerslam set begins the point where it becomes somewhat more problematic to cut Benoit out of everything. Just being unable to advertise that it's the complete shows is a problem. And I'm thinking there were years where he was in pretty significant matches there. At some point I think they'll probably start including his matches in those kind of complete sets--but I don't think that point is coming by next summer, so I assume they'll cut out all of his appearances and adjust the marketing accordingly.
Isn't there supposed to be bad blood between Mr Poffo and Vince? I'm hoping for a self destruction of the macho man style DVD, since the warrior one was just fantastic.
Also, Where the hell is the Jericho DVD? I mean seriously, it's about time. Did one get release a few years back and i missed it? Aside from any number of wonderful matches he's had in the WWE, WCW, and ECW, I'm really interested to see some of the stuff he did in Mexico and especially Japan after reading his book.
Considering most of the best Starrcade matches from the 80's are already spread out on other discs, this compilation doesn't interest me much. I'd much rather have seen a Best of Jim Crockett Promotions DVD along the lines of Best of AWA/World Class released over the past 2 years. If the Savage DVD has ICW footage, it will be a must get.

That's going to be a real problem since he main evented SummerSlam 2004 .... I suspect they leave him in there.
He's been TOO big a part of that show for years:
2000: vs. Jericho, best of 3 falls 2002: vs. Van Dam, IC Title 2003: vs. Rhyno, Eddie, Tajiri, US Title 2004: vs. Orton, World Title 2005: vs. OJ, US Title
I believe the idea going forward is to leave Benoit in DVD sets of whole PPV's like a Summerslam one and to not use him in any other type of DVD project. So, PPV anthology sets will still have him in there, but nothing else will.
Remember, the chances are that Sting isn't resigning with TNA, so dangling a DVD release in front of Mr Borden might just be a way of the WWE getting pen to paper with the master of the Scorpion Deathlock.
A Macho Man DVD release? Now that one could be very interesting...

Done correctly, a Sting DVD could be very interesting, even if it would probably end with the final Nitro. Does anyone know if WWE controls the old UWF footage?

Unless something has changed, Watts' wife still owns the Mid-Sout/UWF footage, which damages the potential of a Ted DiBiase DVD ever being released.

They could do an entire DVD of the DiBiase vs Junkyard Dog feud if they could get their hands on the Mid South/UWF library.
Bill Watts may have been a dick to work with/for, but the man could run circles around any promoter in the country at the time.

It would be hard to leave out Benoit/Orton, especially since it was when Orton won the title and they're really pushing the whole "youngest champion ever" thing. Other than that the others wouldn't be a huge loss. Jericho/Benoit was a great match but I think people remember their other matches more than that one. Plus the Summerslam with the Jericho/Benoit match still has a TLC match and Rock vs. Angle vs. HHH.
I'm really looking forward to the Edge and Perfect DVDs. Savage will be great too if it's a serious DVD. Going the Ultimate Warrior route would be a disaster. The only thing good about that DVD was everybody making fun of Warrior's interviews and they can't do the same thing with Savage because he made sense in his interviews...somewhat. Besides his feuds and matches are way to good to be treated like a glorified joke like with Warrior.
Did Meltzer say Sting had signed a written contract? Last I heard it was basically a verbal contract with no pen put to paper yet. Even if he did re-sign it'd probably be another one year contract at most and the WWE could move the DVD back one month and sign him when his new TNA deal is over.

Originally, it was going to be an August 2007 release, but got pushed back to the eventual current date. My guess is that there was at least one Austin vs. Benoit match on the set (which, apparently, Austin still pushed hard for with regards to the final set) thus changing up things.
I think the Austin and Edge sets will still be great, even if they leave out Benoit. Same can be said for the Rock and HHH sets, as he had good-great matches against those guys too, but there is so much to choose from for all of those guys, Benoit shouldn't be missed.
The Macho set is long overdue, and a must own in this house. I hope they can salvage some of his footage from Memphis. The Sting set, while it didn't blow me away when I first read about it, the more I thought about it, the more I realized Sting has TONS of great matches between 1988-1998 (and none with Benoit, bonus!), so now I am quite stoked about it.

The WWE putting out a Sting DVD is a horrible idea. Sure, they own all those tapes, but why the fuck would they put out a product that will ONLY make the people buying it want to watch him in TNA, thus helping the 'competition'?
It makes no sense to me. Just wait till they have him in a contract where they can actually use the man himself on the discs instead of other people talking about him.
Where's an Eddie Set? I'm even more surprised they haven't put one out for him yet.

Eddie's set came out in '04 around the same time the Benoit set came out. They need to do a lot of wrestlers/territories/themes a first time before they get to Eddie a second. Tag teams of the 80's has so much potential as an off-shoot of Wrestling Stars of the 80's that I'm stunned they haven't gone for it yet.

I hope you're right about him being left in whole PPVs - people can fast-forward if they don't want to watch his match. Rendering a PPV incomplete, regardless of how many other good matches there may be on it, is idiotic.
I think it was the first TLC match that Bubba hit it. Jeff Hardy was laying on a ladder and he hit the move. Man, it looked PAINFUL to everyone involved.
