Missouri. Origin of the most recent Raw & Smackdowns, though I didn't think to pay any attention to how many rules were actually broken.
Kansas has quite a few rules (I believe they, like MO, require the use of a guardrail) but aren't nearly as petty as MO. On the other hand, Iowa doesn't even require the promoter to be licensed or inform the state of events and I think Illinois is similar to Iowa.
On the other hand, after attending an indy show in Minnesota a couple of years ago and seeing it take nearly 30 minutes for an ambulance to arrive after a guy cracked his head on the concrete and went into convulsions, I fully support the state requiring an ambulance to be on site at all times.

I'd love to see the licence exam for THIS. ;D
I think the best part about this story is that instead of correcting the article they just pulled it all together so just because the WWE was so adamant about not being called a wrestling organization, they lost out on the publicity all together.

Darn! I was so sure you were going to say Oregon, which I seem to recall both WWE and WCW avoiding like the plague.
Anyway, this whole wresting avoidance is annoying and almost creepy. It reminds me of the whole "ex-gay" thing, although that's probably a bizarre inappropriate thing to compare it to.

I seem to recall that had to do with mandatory steroid testing, but I could be wrong.

Annoyingly, all licenses expire on the 30th of June of even #ed years. That means if you want to wrestle in June of 2012, you have to pay full price but your license runs out at the end of the month.
The headline of the original item read 'Drew Carey Inducted Into Pro Wrestling Hall Of Fame,' so I figured the publicist was calling to correct that. Isn't there an actual Pro Wrestling Hall Of Fame, separate and unaffiliated with the WWE Hall Of Fame?

Hey, we're up to 26 posts in this thread. I'll play (for about a minute.) A quick google search finds the linkedin profile (linkedin.com) for the WWE publicist. Per this, she is a 20-something event planner who has been with WWE since (a whopping) February 2011. And who probably would be a closely-supervised trainee in any interaction other than trivial little wording modifications for nobody writers. Oh, yeah, this is a person whom we should all recognise as the definitive voice of WWE. Meanwhile, this is the first I've ever heard of the esteemed online news source that is TVWeek.com, or of it's managing director Chuck Ross (tvweek.com), who apparently was having a "slow news day", & opted to share with us his "righteous indignation" with this person. And top it off with this being an editorial from early on StPatrick's Day morning-after.
We must be bored if this warrants 26 posts! (That's my own hyperbole, of course -- the posts about stupid laws about pro wrestling were interesting.)

You're correct in that there is a Pro Wrestling Hall Of Fame, but I don't think they were calling to correct that particular point.

Of course that's what they were responding to. It's the only thing in the original blurb that mentions "pro wrestling." The WWE does not, in its view or in name, manage a pro wrestling hall of fame. The WWE employee should have done better to spell this out and avoid seeming so combative, but ... the headline is the only place where the world "wrestling" appears.

We're on the Road to WrestleMania. The people are starving to talk about wres-- er, sports entertainment. And for WrestleMania to happen already so that we can fill the results thread with 100+ posts.
pssst... christian might be in the smackdown world title match...
WHAT? LET'S ALL THROW IN OUR TWO CENTS!! (Even me. I wanna talk about *something*. Rock and Cena was so three weeks ago.)

I had a different word in mind in place of "bored," particularly towards the guy who posted five times in this thread before you did. We had that unintentional double post, too...
Anyway, I CAN confirm that "TV Week" is a real trade magazine, yes. Well....was. They went "Internet only" in June 2009, apparently. (Ah, so THAT explains why we can't get the weekly Nielsen ratings from them anymore - they stopped printing them!)
Finally, there'll be a new episode of RAW to talk about in mere HOURS. I think you can wait. If not, go watch NWA Hollywood - that's what I'm gonna do!
EDIT: Yes, obviously it's because the WWE Hall of Fame isn't the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame (pwhf.org) and the TV Week guy couldn't make the connection - and we're all suffering for it.

re: InVerse - How would that make Randy Orton illegal?
I remember one match Orton got knocked off the ring side onto the outside mat and he left a two foot long grease trail. My friends and I also had a running joke that Batista walked through a oil cloud before his matches. The back stage interview he is dry, then match time, it looks like he dumped a KFC bucket on his chest.
Blading is illegal in Missouri? Because the Mad Man London vs Abdulla the Butcher match i attended had about 27 different blading incidents. I wonder what the fine is for breaking that law.
I just recently watched the Rise and Fall of WCW & The Story of Wresltemania last week on Netflix. I recall that there was a small blip about St. Louis being the place to be for professional wrestlers prior to the promotions being bought out & territory consolidation.
I wonder if those strict rules set in Missouri were established to add some realism to the "sport" back in the territory days. Sure you could compete around the country, but St. Louis is where the real traditional competition is kinda thing.
I'm sure that just like every other state, there are larger issues and older laws in place that need discussion. These laws are so irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. I can't see the law makers rushing to pass new laws on this topic. I'm guessing that the laws aren't strictly enforced either. That is unless some agency wants to go after somebody for something or other.

STOP! The WWE docs are on Netflix insta-watch?
That's the most noteworthy thing to come from this thread! TO MY NETFLIX MACHINE!!!
Yeah, there's a small handful of them available now. All in my queue too. The two aforementioned, Big Show, Jericho, The Hardy Boys, 50st greatest wrestlers... and a couple more.
From what I can tell they only have the documentary part of the DVD's streaming. The matches from discs 2, 3 etc... aren't listed.
Originally posted by JustinShapiroI think it reflects sillily on them. I don't know if there's an edict for their PR to stress Sports Entertainer/Superstar/Diva language with unflinching scrutiny, or if she just followed her given directives so severely because she thought she'd get in trouble if she didn't.
I know someone who used to work for World Sports Entertainment Entertainment PR during the "Vince's limo blew up" days and when a media inquiry was talking like it was a work and made some little joke the PR people had to say "How dare you! What happened to MR MCMAHON is a tragedy." so it wouldn't surprise me if she was doing what she was supposed to.
Imagine if they tried the bulldog four times and she missed every time until they finally both fell down at 1/4th speed. Judge it for yourself (youtube.com), it's right there.
