I'm debating on getting WWE '13 for XBox 360 soon, and I'd like some educated advice from my fellow W's on if it's any good. Better than last year? What did you like, what didn't you like, et cetera.

It's largely the same, honestly. The community creations servers seem more stable, at least. The attitude mode is a nice little shot of nostalgia, and the customization of Universe mode makes for a bit of fun. The actual wrestling still is not that great, and the character models are all incredibly ugly and crappy looking, which at least lets created wrestlers look like they fit in fairly well with everyone else.
I don't think the game is worse than last year in any way, and there are a few improvements. King of the Ring tournaments are back. The OMG Moments (use a stored finisher to trigger something special) are nice additions (though by their nature, you don't get to use them too often). And really, just the fact that they finally fixed the Community Creations server is nice.
I played one online match and found it to be fairly laggy. Not sure if that's them or me. But I never play online anyway, so whatever. MATCH RESULTS: Daniel Bryan d. Jack Swagger (schoolboy rollup, ** 3/4)
I was not a fan of the Attitude Era storyline actually, as I have always preferred new storylines to recycled stuff. Basically you have to recreate the Attitude Era matches and moments, and I found one pretty early on that I couldn't do, and I haven't played the game since then. I don't play the game online, and create-a-whatever has never really interested me. Color me disappointed.

Was it getting Bulldog to submit? Because I almost broke my wrist mashing the X button for a half hour.

I would say if playing through the Attitude Era mode sounds like something that would interest you or if you liked the Universe Mode in the previous game then you'd probably enjoy it.
If you're looking for a game that is greatly improved over last year's game, you want a stroyline mode with current wrestlers or you want a good online game then this probably isn't for you.
Since nobody else seems to have played online much I'll add that online play is terrible. The server wasn't that bad it was the opponents. When I first got the game I had a few really good matches but now that most people have caught on to the strategy almost every player you'll find online is somebody that just spams their running move and never does anything else. Most of them are people trying to get the achivements/trophies so they are just trying to find a cheap way to get to the highest level on online play. Even if you learn to counter their running move and win the match it just isn't very fun. It's sort of like in the Mortal Kombat days where you'd always run into a guy that would win just by sweeping the leg over and over again.

That's why there should be a mechanic to encourage good matches.
I remember the old Legends of Wrestling game had a system where you pay was according to how good your match was. You got penalized for repeating a move too many times and you got a bonus for using a variety of them.
For the life of me, I can't figure out how to throw someone into the window in Backstage Brawl - I found the window, I throw someone into it, but the damn thing just won't break.

Feels much the same. I like having the title stats and using them as standards to beat. The ability to control your tag partner and switch back quickly makes tag matches really fun.

I thought WWE 13 was terrible. Yukes has a tendency to focus on a few new features, maybe improving a few of the broken things but mainly making a incomplete effort. I wasn't going to even touch the game because of how frustratingly broken WWE 12 was. I found out ahead of the game's release that WWE 13's Universe mode had branching storylines where you could choose multiple outlines and that they had Paul Heyman help write over 100+ angles for the game.
Guess how upset and frustrated I was to find out these branching storyline choices almost never appear. I played the game for a month and never saw one. Some people on they gamefaqs board said they were given multiple choice options very rarely. Also if you want to see any kind of consistent story progression with certain wrestlers then you better not change anything in Universe besides the arenas. Apparently even doing something as simple as changing a Triple Threat match with two feuding Superstars involved, into a one on one match between the two could reset/destroy the feud. Don't get me started on how creating your arena was freezing people's games even after THQ released a big ass patch a month after release.
Community Creations actually works and works well this year. Online is the worst because pinning people never works seeing as how anybody in the world can kick out of pin no matter how badly hurt they are or how many finishers you hit. People spamming running attacks while easier to defend in last year's game, you would just hit the grapple button when they got close and it worked a 100% to neuter the running attack spammers. This tactic, or the timing of it, is much much harder to pull off. So make a small wrestler and have fun with that.
I would go into detail about how the AI consistently tries to go for OMG moments regardless of match type in every match, how weak finishers are on the AI, the fact that there is no 2 count in offline matches, and how stupid it is that your wrestlers never seem to want to use your created corner and top rope finishers but this review is getting much too long and overly negative. I should say something that is good about the game so I don't seem biased.
Catch finishers are pretty awesome! \End_of_list
Rent it from redbox or find a used copy at Gamestop that you could return in a week. I would suggest you wait another month or two to see if Yukes fixed any of this with a patch. Knowing where THQ is financially right now and Yukes track record I wouldn't expect much.

This is what I did. I endorse this method. Rented for 2 days, played a few dozen matches, tried out all the features including Attitude Era, which I didn't like at all. Got my two bucks worth, returned it, never looked back. When does WWE 14 come out?
Guess I'll avoid this one and wait for WWE '14; in the meantime maybe NBA 2K13 will be my next big game purchase (except for it doesn't have any classic Pacers teams, dammit).
Maybe I'll wait for NBA 2K14 also.

Thread ahead: Wii U releases: weeks of December 24 and 31, 2012 Next thread: Street Fighter X Mega Man Previous thread: PS3 releases: week of December 24, 2012
There's a 2010 thread that suggests - Go To Network Settings - Change Media Server to Disable Try it again then. It seems to have a decent success rate. If not that, there's a suggestion to check to see if your router firmware can be updated.
