This is interesting.

Apparently a poet named Michael Holmes is putting out a whole book of poetry about Pro Wrestling this spring (2004).

The book is to be called "Parts Unknown: Wrestling, Gimmicks and Other Works" and I think the publisher is Insomniac Press.

I also hear that he's got Jimmy Hart in his corner, so to speak. Poetry and wrestling? It's such a crazy gimmick it just might get over.

Anyone else know anything about it? When is it coming out?

It's not such an insane idea as it sounds on the surface. The guy seems fairly well regarded in mainstream circles, so I would be more than willing to check it out. Besides, after the coordinator of my program collaborated on a 550 page book of poems all inspired by "All About Eve" is a book of poetry inspired by wrestling really that odd? :)

Well, from what I understand is that this is actually something coming from the literary world that focuses on wrestling, rather than a wrestler reciting lousy limericks before a match, then throwing a frisbee into the crowd. I can't find any information about it on the net and it's got me buggin'! I wanna see this thing... I thought someone here might know something.

This book is already listed on Amazon, but it says it's not available yet, but you can pre-order. I love wrestling related curiosities like this. I'll definitely look for it.

Think this must be the same Michael Holmes who was involved with a book on the Canadian Wrestling Hall of Fame and is working with Jimmy Hart (according to Slam! Wrestling) on his memoirs, so his poetry book should be pretty smart.

According to Adrienne Weiss, the Marketing Director for Insomniac Press, the book will be published in April but does not yet have a specific release date. She guessed that it would be near the end of April.

Thank God. You can only use Jewel's book as the punchline of every joke about poetry for so many years before it starts to get a little dated.

Not willing to give the book a chance, Mike? How do you know it will be a joke?

Well, if you don't know anything about poetry, you probably shouldn't be making jokes about it.

Obviously, I haven't read this book yet, but I like the idea that someone like Holmes is using wrestling as subject matter for what's usually considered "serious" art. It's about time the high-brow arts gave wrestling a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T. I'm looking forward to reading it.

No way! Is this for real?

This guy better be careful. If the book's too artsy-fartsy, the hardcore wrestle-heads might hate it, and if it's too, oh, I don't know...too much like wrestling...then his poetry buddies might hate it. That's a fine line to walk. Sounds interesting, though.

So sayeth Randy Stilton.

ECWA held its annual Super 8 tournament this past Saturday, April 23, in Woodbury Heights, NJ. Woodbury Heights is about an hour and a half from my home, so on a whim, I spent the 25 bucks to attend.
