It about time we get to start thinking about 2K17. They have recently been doing story modes based on one character. Undertaker two years ago, and Stone Cold last year.
Here are some I was thinking about.
Ric Flair.
They could use his whole career. AWA, NWA, wCw, WWe. The size of the roster dedicated to this could be insane. Thats why I doubt they'll do his whole career. Maybe the first match is the 93 Rumble. The bonus is that you can still use all the wCw guys they've been adding for the last few years. Most of the recent guys will get mileage out of in this story line. They could even have an epilogue, or DLC, to include Charlotte's current run. Benoit not being available for this kinda takes some out of the Evolution and Four Horsemen part.
Bret Hart.
Like Flair they would get use of the wCw guys that were old WWF guys. Double dipping would make it easier for the designers. You can have the Wembley Stadium in this story. That would be a first right? The epilogue for it can be his short US title win over Miz. Owen will be needed but might not make it. Brian Pillman will at least be in. His story line will miss Hulk Hogan the least. The roster here could be like wCw/NWO Revenge only with the guys having their WWF gimmicks too.
Shawn Michaels.
This will be my best guess for who they choose. All the New Generation can be used. They can have all his old, classic matches. Then the injury years. Come back to his last run. They won't have a lot of the wCw guys like the other two, but they can still have the N.W.O. in it. Maybe a part where you play as a young Brian Danielson after Shawn trains him. The Epilogue to it would be the Hell in a Cell HHH vs Taker. Where you could change the ending of the match by being the guest ref.
HHH.
You know he'll do all his voice overs. It would have a deep roster going all the way back to The New Generation. The epilogue could be this years or lasts Wrestlemania. Be a nice way to get Goldberg back in the games. This would be like Here Comes the Pain 2.0. His Punk and Kurt Angle feuds would be missing though. They could have a NXT GM mode as the unlock for completing the story.
Mick Foley.
His story would have a very diverse roster. Old wCw, classic ECW, then Attitude Era. They did just do the Attitude Era though. Would the epilogue match be the one vs Edge at Mania or one of his many returns since then?
Jericho.
His would be a lot like some of the others, but it would include cruiser weights much more. You'd get that great Jericho vs Dean Melinko build up and match, early ECW matches, and his big debut in WWF. The Save_US.222 and all his recent returns. Get that sweet JeriShow theme. Epilogue would be his feud with AJ.
How about a Tag Team story line? The Dudley's story would be close to Foley's one. A Hall and Nash one? Single matches in the beginning, tag matches in wCw, and their return to The Fed. Epilogue could be Nash vs HHH TLC 2011.
Sting and Daniel Brain might be possibilities too, but not a lot to draw from. They wouldn't use that much wCw in a WWe game, and don't own the rights to ROH or Brian's Japan matches. Hulk Hogan's racist rant is still to recent. The Rock's story would be too close to Austin's. Booker T doesn't have that much interest, even though he's had a hell of a career. Same goes for Edge.
They could just release the THQ games and SmackDown! games for current gen consoles. I still have the 64 and PS2 hooked up just for that reason alone.
They already did Hulkamania a few years back, so I think he's out (even with the whole racist thing).
I think Flair's a good option, as well as Michaels.
Personally, the best way to go given their audience and the trend, would be the Monday Night Wars overall. Just like they did the "History of WrestleMania" and "The Attitude Era."
It would be their revisionist version of it, but there's a lot of matches and moments from Raw and Nitro that they haven't hit on that would help promote the talent they want to promote. You could have Flair, Sting, Austin, Rock, HHH, Nash, Hall, Foley, Taker, Jericho, DDP, Bret, etc. all in prominent matches.
I'd like to see the option of parallel career lines for Rock and HHH where you play one career, unlock stuff, then play the other career, and unlock stuff.

This could work. They had long careers, against each other, as both face and heel. This got me thinking of another two that are like this. Hogan and Savage. You got their big matches at WM 3, you got the WM 4 Tournament, you got The Mega Powers, then the Mega Powers Explode at WM 5, then you got face Hogan and Savage in wCw as the Mega Powers 2.0 vs the Alliance to End Hulkamania, heel Hogan N.W.O vs Face Savage wCw, heel Hogan and heel Savage N.W.O., Heel Hogan N.W.O. Black & White vs Face Savage N.W.O. Wolfpack. People forget that Savage was Hogan's biggest rival. They get caught up in Hogan's big moments, but most of them are one off matches. Hogan and Savage were vs each other or teamed with each other 10 times on TV in 1998. I'm not counting the two dark matches.
