Well, guess its time I go over to http://www.norfolkbaseballcompany.com and get on thier message boards and tell them I TOLD YOU SO. Somehow, those clowns in Norfolk were CONVINCED they were the best choice! LOL!

(edited by StaggerLee on 22.7.04 1529) Thank you for your irrelevant opinion.
The best plan would have been Vegas and the A.L. West for the Expos, while the D-Rays go to the N.L. East. Would have gone into a new market with a competitive team not hampering another team, and would have put the D-Rays in a division with 2 natural rivals. Now, baseball still has a Tampa franchise overmatched in their division, while Baltimore will be weakened and the Expos are going to a place that spit the bit twice already. As long as the Blue Jays pay in Canadian dollars, this almost guarantees New York/Boston 1-2 in the A.L East for the foreseeable future.
The latest issue of Time's cover story, where Joel Stein lets us know that Vegas is fun, has a little blurb about there still being plans to move the Expos there.

I just HOPE they don't get the idea at the last minute to call them the Senators for their sake...using that name for a baseball team name may or may not be jinxed.

Hey, we can dream, can't we? Not that I am on the message board over there...but I was still hoping (though realizing it was a long shot) that we'd get a major league team to come to Norfolk. Oh well. The Tides will continue to keep me entertained and at $7.50 a ticket, I can't go wrong...I will miss David Wright though...

They've been moving for about five years. I will believe it when the moving vans back up to the stadium.
Even then it's not a done deal. The Seahawks moved to Anaheim a couple of years ago and the trucks DID leave, with protesters there and everything.
(Note for non-football fans: They DID come back, though.)
Yeah, but you know...fans in the D.C./Baltimore area, they're a little more sensitive than most when it comes to putting "team" and "moving trucks" in the same sentence. :)

I still flip off Mayflower moving vans whenever I see one...
So is that the Expos' new name? The Nationals? I can't see them keeping the current team name. No matter where they go, I hope they change the name. It's my opinion that it'd be a chance to liven up MLB without watering down the league's talent like expansion would do.

A small bit of irony in this being that the AA affiliate for the Expos is the Harrisburg Senators, a team that until recently had quite a successful run in the Eastern League, winning 4 straight championships from 1996-1999, as well as a win in 1993 (all after switching affiliation to the Expos). It was also the team where Vlad Guerrero rose to prominence.
Originally posted by XPacArmyWho owns the Expos right now? Last I think I heard is the MLB owns them but will they continue to own them or sell them after they move to D.C.

I'm pretty sure they'd sell. MLB wants this whole situation to be over with as soon as possible... the only reason they even own the 'Spos is that they couldn't find a buyer beforehand (and Jeffrey Loria just HAS to have a team).

Mayflower is still the moving service of choice for NFL teams to transport their gear on the road. There's always 1 or 2 of their big trailers backed up to the visiting team's locker room loading dock @ Lambeau.
Every time I see it coming out of the media entrance (yep, we have our own walkway now...snazzy!), I wonder where the re-location's going to...and what bar where will rename their bathroom as the "Bob Irsay Room" next.
Star wipe, and...we're out. Thrillin' ain't easy.

Hehe @ Zimmer and Pedro roadshow. I gotta question if the BoSox fought to a hard fought 5 game series with the A's and lost and the whole keeping Pedro in for to long vs. the Yankees therefore losing the game never happened...
