Aside - people who like Punch-Out will probably like Wade Hixton's Counter Punch for the GBA. Try it! It's cheap now!
(My other awesome recent GBA discovery is Ninja Five-O, which finally answers the question, "What if Shinobi also had a Bionic Commando grappling arm?")
DANGER DANGER DO NOT BUY VIRTUA FIGHTER 2 AS THE GENESIS VERSION IS REALLY REALLY BAD
Seriously. I have it in the PS2 Sega Genesis Collection. It's ass-awful. You have been warned.
Seriously, if they're capable of porting over N64 games, then what's stopping Sega from putting out Sega Saturn titles? Anything would be better than getting the Sega Genesis version of Virtua Fighter 2. I mean, the Saturn version was beautiful and played beautifully, too.
I ask this question as I FINALLY download Punch-Out!!

The Wisdom of Homsar: AaAaAa! I'm a trendy tote bag!
PUNCH-OUT!! Another marked off the ever-shortening list. As someone who has never gone with the emulators and such, I can't be happier with Nintendo releasing their older games. I have played TMNT a lot in the past week, but that's about to go on the backburner as I try to see if I can still handle (not) Mike Tyson.

Two things:
1. Whether the Wii can emulate the Saturn hardware 2. There are some compression techniques handy to downsize a disc (Saturn game discs are CD-ROMs with a capacity at least several hundred MB) to fit inside the Wii's internal 512MB memory
Sega has confirmed four more Genesis classics en route to the Virtual Console in the next ... well ... they'll be here eventually, anyway. The titles? Wellll ....
* Toe Jam & Earl 2: Panic on Funkotron * Shining in the Darkness * Kid Chameleon * Streets of Rage 2

I thought it played really, really well, considering the limitations of the system. It's really no different than playing Killer Instinct on the SNES.
I've seen FOUR movies so far this year: Because I Said So - (2*); Borat - (5*); Children Of Men - (4*); The Last Mimsy - (4*)

I dunno, I was never a big Killer Instinct fan, but I seem to recall the SNES Killer Instinct being miles ahead of the Genesis VF2. And that's no compliment to Killer Instinct.
EUROPEAN RELEASES for today, according to Wikipedia - Donkey Kong Jr Math (NES) - 500 points - Lylat Wars (Star Fox 64, N64) - 1000 points
JAPANESE RELEASES for April 17, also according to Wikipedia - Pac-Man (Famicom) - 500 points - Final Fight (Super Famicom) - 800 points - Star Fox 64 (N64) - 1000 points - Rent A Hero (Mega Drive) - 600 points - Benki Gaiden (PC Engine) - 600 points - Kaizou Choujin Shubibiman 2 (PC Engine) - 600 points
Yeah the SNES Killer Instinct was good graphics for that system and played decently. VF2 for the genisis tried to make a 2d game out of a 3d game and it just blew. At least KI was a decent 2d fighter.
Virtual Console Roundup: Every Single Upcoming Game
Here, all in one place, is every single upcoming release that I could find out about for the US Virtual Console -- from officially announced titles to speculation based on what's coming out in other regions.
I've flushed out every corner of the Intertubes that I could locate to bring you this list, but let me know if I somehow missed anything.
Nintendo Entertainment System
Nintendo has recently registered Mach Rider, Mighty Bomb Jack, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and Pac-Man with the ESRB (source). Other games have been sitting on the ESRB's ratings page for a while now: Pro Wrestling and Castlevania.
Several other games have already been released in Japan: Donkey Kong Jr. Math, Yoshi, Milon's Secret Castle, Ninja Gaiden, and Lode Runner (source). Later this month, Gradius II (never released in the US) will hit Japan (source). Upcoming Euro releases include Adventures of Lolo, Metroid, NES Open Tournament Golf, Spy vs. Spy, and Super Mario Bros. 2 (Wikipedia says this is from the Aussie ratings board.)
Man, it was okay for a while, but now America really is getting the short end of the stick again. More boning within.
TurboGrafx
Hudson's final two releases for this month are Battle Lode Runner and Shockman (source). Battle Lode Runner will be the first Japan-only game to be released in America.
Japanese games not yet available in America include Galaga '88 (called Galaga '90 when it was released here two years later), Bloody Wolf, and Air Zonk (source). Those are the games with existing American counterparts; if Hudson wants to continue to mine their Japan-only catalog, the shooter Final Soldier might be a good candidate.
Also, in a recent interview, Hudson confirmed that Neutopia, Blazing Lasers, and Bonk 3: Bonk's Big Adventure are also on the way (source).
Genesis
Sega announced today that Toe Jam & Earl In Panic On Funkotron, Kid Chameleon, Streets of Rage 2, and Shining in the Darkness will all hit the US Virtual Console in the coming weeks. Wonder Boy In Monster World had already been announced, so assume that will hit before those four.
Also, Alien Storm and Vectorman are still on the ESRB's rated list, but remain unreleased. And Wikipedia says Golden Axe II is being readied for Europe.
In Japan, the Game Freak-developed Pulseman is set for release later this month. It never came out on cartridge in the US, but it was released on the Sega Channel download service, so it seems like a good Virtual Console candidate here.
(Interestingly enough, although this passed without notice at the time, March 20th's release of Virtua Fighter 2 for Genesis in Japan marked the first time a Western-only game was released in Japan. Even at this, they beat us.)
Super NES
The ESRB lists plenty of Super NES games ready for release, including Final Fight, Gradius III, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, and Street Fighter II Turbo. But not Actraiser. Even though it's already out in Europe. Eff those guys.
In Japan, they're getting Kirby Bowl -- aka Kirby's Dream Course, aka Awesome Game Most In Need Of A Wii Sequel -- later this month.
Nintendo 64
Tohohohoho!
Missing in Action
Several games have been listed on the ESRB web site, then pulled from the list (source). Perhaps Nintendo of America anticipated early on that these games would be sure-fire early additions to Virtual Console, then had to pull them when they got bumped back (or off) the schedule?
Among these are light gun games Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley, and Wild Gunman. Maybe they were more optimistic than they should have been about incorporating Wiimote control?
I don't see Super NES games Super Metroid, Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby Super Star, or Super Mario RPG up there anymore, either. Again, perhaps this was irrational exuberance on the part of NOA.
That's all I can find. And that took a really long time. If you find anything else that I missed, let me know!
