The held up ECW Title was won by Johnny Nitro who filled in for Chris Benoit, who could not make the PPV due to family reasons.
Every other champion retained and in pretty ugly fashion.
Here was a night of nothing but title defenses something that could have really been something and all we got were bad matches, stupid finishes and some oldtimer cameos.
The high point of the PPV may have been JBL making the ring announcer read his speech to the audience.
Maybe, I'm being jaded or smarky or the Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons, but this was really a lousy PPV. There were a few good spots and some of the wrestlers were really trying, but overall it was just poor. Then again all the focus is or will probably be on the Mr McMahon 3 hour Raw, which has to be better than this effort tonight.
Just read the results at wrestlingobserver.com. They pretty much shit all over the entire card. Glad I passed, although seeing Martel and Tony G would have been nice.
I would say that the only match that sucked was Deuce and Domino vs. Snuka and Slaugther. But while there was only 1 bad match there wasn't any single great match. It's like every match was filler for a major main event like HITC or TLC. I guess the last match was supposed to seem like a big match but it just had a lot of wrestlers in there.
Marge I am just trying to get into heaven not run for Jesus.
Rick Martel didn't look bad at all. Any chance he attempts another comeback, like in WCW? Or at the very least, a one-time comeback with Garea against Deuce and Domino?
The PPV was very blah, but I was particularly annoyed with Batista/Edge. Why restart a match with a shitty finish just to have an even shittier finish?
Oh, and watching the clip of the late Eddie Guerrero winning his first world title and then having to watch Vince McMahon's fake death just minutes later really puts things into perspective, doesn't it?

Fellas, not to complain just for the sake of complaining, but a thread entitled "Vengeance Results" should actually have the results of the Vengeance in it someplace, no? Especially for the benefit of us cheap-asses who refused to spring for it.
SO...
Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch defeated The Hardys to retain the World Tag Team Titles.
Chavo Guerrero defeated Jimmy Wang Yang to retain the WWE Cruiserweight Title.
Johnny Nitro defeated CM Punk to become the NEW ECW World Champion. WHOA. I cut and pasted that, without reading it. The ECW Champ, the current king of hardcore, is a guy who gets his eyebrows done? That is lame. They best be building to a Punk win.
Santino Marella defeated Umaga via DQ; Marella retains the WWE Intercontinental Title.
MVP defeated Ric Flair to retain the WWE United States Title. BALLIN!
Deuce & Domino defeated Sgt. Slaughter & Jimmy Snuka to retain the WWE Tag Team Titles.
Edge defeated Batista via Count Out to retain the World Heavyweight Title in a Last Chance Match. Okay, again, didn't see the show, so I can't say a whole lot about this but to me it seems pretty blatant that Batista needed to be screwed big time in his "last chance" match. It should have looked like only an act of God coulda stopped him from winning, and whoever his next feud is with, that guy should have sevrely F'd him over here. And even if you're gonna use him as fodder for Edge...A COUNT-OUT?!? Come on, no one pays 35 or 50 or whatever the fuck they charge for this shit these days to see f'n countouts! I know JR's blog will surely bitch me out for acting like I know everything, but you don't need to be a genius booker to see that this is the kinda shit that works against you.
Candice Michelle defeated Melina to retain the WWE Women's Title.
John Cena over King Booker, Mick Foley, Randy Orton and Bobby Lashley. The re-cap site I took this from said that the decision came at 10:07. If that isn't off by fifteen minutes, that's goddamned disgraceful. Again, I don't myself run a wrestling promotion, so I guess I don't know what I'm talking about, but logic seems to dictate that you want to offer something on PPVs that the audience can't get on free TV. A ten-minute main event is not up to snub. I realize they had a stacked card, and lots of matches tonight, but there's still no excuse for this. And what the fuck is Mick Foley doing out there? He just drops in now and gets title shots?
Glad I missed this stinker. But at least I have given you RESULTS. Heh.

Well, the last ECW Champs, the then-kings of hardcore, were Vince, Lashley, and Big Show. At least Nitro has been in ladder matches. I wouldn't be surprised if he only held the belt until Tuesday since he was never supposed to win it to begin with. But ECW is a developmental league and the ECW title is more of a third U.S./IC belt than a world title, so I would be all for giving Johnny Nitro an accidental heel championship reign.
WWE seemed to do a nice job recognizing past champions and making this night feel special, which it should've been. However, the in-ring action left something to be desired. Maybe it was tough fitting nine matches into just under three hours, but everything seemed rushed, and no match really stood out.
The opening tag match was solid, something you know you're getting from these four guys. At least C&M won somewhat fair this time around. Chavo/Yang was disappointing, as I was expecting more from the high-flying Yang. He does more high-risk on Smackdown than he did in this match. Still, it was a prime example of the "new" cruiserweight style, so I guess we should get used to it, if we're not already.
Boy, what a disappointment not having Benoit there was. And I think it took some out of the crowd too, though I was watching at a restaurant, they seemed silent, even for Punk's offense. And I was surprised that Nitro got the win. There's more money in the chase, I guess. Santino/Umaga was a prime example of WWE's continued focus on making the referee's mean something, though I don't know why they're keeping the belt on Santino. I don't know if the crowd was still hung over from not seeing Benoit or they just don't like Santino, but I couldn't believe the pops Umaga was getting.
M.V.P/Flair didn't even go ten minutes which was a surprise. It was forgettable during an M.V.P hot streak in terms of good matches. The only thing interesting in the WWE Tag Match was (a) seeing Deuce and his father in the ring together and seeing just how bad Snuka would f*ck up and (b) seeing Rick Martel still show a lot of fire. Sign him up! The Edge/Batista match was good, and it was certainly aided by a hot finishing sequence. But boy, they sure booked Batista to look dumb.
Melina/Candice was fine, about what we expect from the women's division these days. And even the main event, while the action was pretty much non-stop, was about 10 minutes shorter than I expected. Cena getting the pin on Foley doesn't do much for either wrestler, either.
There were some surprises throughout the night (though most of the legends that came out were already on staff as agents/producers, so that was kinda disappointing), but they couldn't drag Moolah out to represent the women's title? Still a nice touch having former champs on hand. But the in-ring action was a major bring-down.
I haven't seen the show, but I did have a question that I have yet to see addressed in reviews: Isn't Snuka either Deuce or Domino's father, or stepfather. So he wrestled his own son??
Dean! Have you been shooting dope into your scrotum? You can tell me! I'm hip!
So the girlfriend was out of town and I had nothing else to do last night, so I got me the PPV.
-I enjoyed the tag match. Cade and Murdoch do the little things very well, lots of nice facials and subtle movements. It was nothing spectacular, but a nicely laid out tag match that was enjoyable. Good decision to give C&M a fairly clean win that doesn't feel like a fluke.
-The cruiserweight match was something of a disappointment. Not a bad match, but not what I was hoping for from those two. The whole match just felt a bit off to me.
-I admit, I ordered the show because I was expecting Punk vs. Benoit. So to replace Benoit with Johnny Nitro just sucked the air out of the little room I was in as well as the big room the PPV was in. It seems apparent that the plan for ECW at this point is ABP (Anyone But Punk) to be the ECW champ, and that if the only possible sub for Benoit was the Brooklyn Bralwer that Steve Lombardi would be celebrating his first world title win. The match had the feel of one that was slapped together and that Nitro was not at all comfortable, and that Punk was off his game as well.
-Umaga as a crazy ass face could be fun. I expect Marella to lose his title tonight, or next week at the latest and probably be gone for repackaging in a month at most.
-MVP vs. Flair wasn't bad. Just like with the Benoit series, an extended run against Flair can only help MVP improve and raise his game. I expect this to continue with better matches down the road.
-Jimmy Snuka got to wrestle against his kid on a PPV. Should have been shorter though, as after 2 minutes having the match play out like a real match got tiresome. Rick Martel looked better than anyone involved in the tag title match, and probably would have made a better sub for Benoit than Nitro was.
-I liked how they got Edge through there, and enjoyed the false finish, seemingly setting the babyface up for redemption after being saved by Teddy Long. I just wonder what this means for Batista now. Perhaps interfering if/when Rey Mysterio returns and helping his buddy win the title, and then challenging his friend?
-Candice made fine use of the butt butt to win her title. Sure the match wasn't good, but either she's a damn fine actress or there was some actual emotion at the end from her. Either way, it made the match seem more important and meaningful.
-Cena pinning Foley is the only result that makes sense unless you're actually going to move the belt. And since Cena has that thing grafted to his waist until HHH returns you know that's not happening. Why weaken an eventual contender when he can pin Mick, who will just go away for a while again, and come back as if nothing ever happened? Seems to me like Cena vs. Lashley at Summerslam is inevitable.
-I liked the Night of Champions motif. Great seeing Magnum T.A. there, and the U.S. Express was a surprise. Also glad to see Vince a few years behind the culture curve as usual with the Jackass at Summerslam stuff. I know the sequel move made money last year, but as celebrities and pop culture icons their time feels very long passed. Maybe I'm wrong though, and this will be like Mike Tyson coming in. But I doubt it. I do know though that if Vince McMahon were still alive he'd have something to say about it.
The Jackass stuff is at the behest of the USA Network, so it ain't exactly Vince who's behind with the times. From the sounds of it WWE were redady to cal the whole angle off, but got their arm twisted by USA.
Complete middle-of-the-road show. The main was lotsa fun, and actually made Lashley look cool for the first time since forever. And it's good to know that Batista won't be challenging for the title any time soon. The ECW match was disappointing, but their hands were kinda tied. I don't think the company are down on Punk at all - I don't think he'd have been in the match if that were the case. Nitro is a good option for emergency champion, whereas a Punk win would have perhaps necessitated rejjigging their summer plans for ECW. If Nitro drops the belt back to Benoit ASAP, then their original plans - Benoit as the champion, perhaps with Punk chasing him - will be intact.
To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

They could build up D&D by having them squash a whole bunch of legends for the next few months. As long as it was kept in short bursts, it'd be interesting to watch.

Sorry man, I must have missed that part of your post. And yes, your review does count, pro or not.
I can't remember anything like that happening before, and I wouldn't doubt that someone backstage just didn't put two and two together. Probably the same idiot that thought it was a good idea to drag Snuka out there in the first place. If only Vince were still alive to prevent these type of things from happening.

Well, it wasn't interesting when it was done by Randy Orton or Rob Conway, so I see no reason to think that it would be now.
