Okay, I've seen some weird pairings, but this one officially is the oddest thing I have ever seen. From mtv.com:
That stunned silence you're hearing from across the pond might just be the sound of British pop fans' speechless reaction after turning on their televisions and seeing Justin Timberlake jamming with the Flaming Lips.
In another sign of their "anything goes" spirit, the Oklahoma psychedelic rockers invited the 'NSYNC heartthrob to sit in on bass with them during a "Top of the Pops" performance of the title track from their recent album, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.
The segment, taped Thursday afternoon and slated to run Friday evening (January 24) in England, came about when Timberlake and Lips leader Wayne Coyne met on Wednesday, when both were at Radio One in London for separate interviews, according to Arlene Moon, a Jive Records U.K. television promotions staffer.
"It was a chance meeting and they got on really well and they asked Justin to join them onstage. Justin is a big fan of theirs," she said.
The Lips gave Timberlake a copy of their track to study, and, before he took the stage for rehearsals on Thursday, they also gave him a dolphin suit to wear; the Lips' current stage show frequently involves two dozen audience members dressed as plushie animals. Timberlake was game, keeping the dolphin head on until the taping, then taking it off to the delight of the audience. "It was really quite funny," Moon said. "He had an absolute blast. He likes to do things people don't expect." As for Justin's heretofore-untapped prowess on the bass guitar, Moon said only, he plays "a little."
Torchslasher foiled me this time, but I shall get him next time!*maniacal laughter*
Oy, Lips and Justin...that tops Dwight Yoakum opening up for Husker Du back in 86. Its just wrong. What's next? "The Spice Girls featuring Gibby Haynes"? Jello Biafra jamming with Lil Bow Wow? Anne Murray and King Diamond? Cats and dogs living together?
"You know Monsoon, I am impressed, and I don't impress easy" -Jesse "The Body" Ventura
We laugh, but if this bit of mainstream rub helps the Flaming Lips gain even a few more fans, it's so worth it.
Just listened to Yoshimi, and it's GREAT.

I do remember Debbie Gibson & ........was it the Circle Jerks? That was fun.
I think we're thinking of the same concert. It might have been Circle Jerks, but I keep thinking it was Bad Brains..
And something to consider... Christina Aguilera & Fred Durst already happened at the VMAs.
I have a special friend. He's the baby Jesus and I love him and...and...he don't give me no s**t and he don't f**k around and he's just the f**king coolest guy and I wanna say I love the baby Jesus.I can't say enough.I love the baby Jesus and I think...he's the best thing and he's really great when he shares his love for everbody. You know what I mean?I can't even see a manger without thinkin' about him,eh?I just love the Jesus.I've only been into him for a couple of hours though, but I'm really into him.--Bruce McCulloch

That wouldn't be so surprising... Jello is the one who managed to dupe Mike D of the Beastie Boys out of signing Wesley Willis. Wesley was so grateful for Jello signing him that he wrote a song about him. Although Wesley writes a lot of songs about a lot of people... that fat schizo rocks.

I met Wesley at a club in Albany when he played there last winter... word to the wise, no matter how much he scares you into it, NEVER comply with his headbutt-greeting ritual. It hurts like hell and he has that lump there for a reason. He's better than JYD at headbutts.
