This story is leaving the orbit of wrestling news to get bigger. It reminds me of Emma's brief firing in that way, and I wonder if maybe the suspension will be rescinded but they'll quietly reduce his presence for the time being.
There is no way this will stand - the amount of bad press they would get when this story gets out and about will be horrendous. Surely they are going to deny he was ever suspended and have him jobbing on TV again to punish him that way.
The suspension is ludicrous, but I'm wondering the same thing the article brought up -- what the hell was he thinking?? Why do that?
I saw McMahon jerk back when it happened, but had no idea what had happened. I thought he'd stopped to say something to someone. Just seems weird all around.
It was a weird moment because it was right as the show was fading out. Would he have gotten suspended if the cameras had already been cut? Probably not which makes this pretty extreme, especially the length of the punishment. Some mainstream outlets have picked up on this story which is hilarious because they never get attention when they beg for it.
This writer makes some good points, as Titus seems to be the guy they go to (aside from Cena) for charity work and being a corporate face for WWE. Plus it seems a little weird that a 2 time drug offender gets LESS of a suspension than a guy having a 5 second lack of judgment.
Kevin Kelly: "Mr. Austin, would you like to comment on Wade Keller's Take that endorsing the XFL hurts your anti-authority character?"
Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"
Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"
Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."
You have a beloved wrestler standing in the ring during one of the longest overruns in recent memory, saying he needs to retire because his brain is mush. it's not the time to get caught on camera horsing around.
Not saying I fully agree with the length of the suspension, but I understand their logic.
It's damn near impossible to see what's actually going on in that footage, but I'd swear that Titus says something to Vince when he pulls him over. If that is the case, then it's probably more about what he said than just pulling Vince over.
I've been waiting for the early Shotguns to pop up on The Network. I remember really liking the concept. I don't remember a whole lot from these off the top of my head. Austin getting pissed at a rambling Terry Funk might be my favorite memory.
