I found an old newspaper clipping (April 1992) about a women named Rita Chatterton appearing on the "Geraldo Rivera Show" talking about her experiences in the WWF :
Vince McMahon, who owns the Wolrd Wrestling Federation, filed a lawsuit against Rivera because of sexual assault allegation made against McMashon on Rivera's television shows, "Now It Can Be Told" and "The Geraldo Rivera Show".
During the shows, Rita Chatterton, a former referee for the Stamford Conn.-based WWF, said McMahon forced her to have sex with him in 1986.
Rivera said he's not concerned about the lawsuit and is read to grapple with the WWF. "Ti's a mark of honor to be sued by the World Wrestling Federation. I will body slam them in court," Rivera said in a statement issued through his New York public relations firm.
While the article specifically names her as a referee, I don't remember ever seeing a woman ref before in the WWF ... Besides, newspapers are notorious for ignoring/screwing up the facts when it comes to their miniscule coverage of pro wrestling. My guess is that she was actually someone working behind the scenes on the business end of Titan Sports.
Anyone recognize the name? Was there a female referee before Miss Jacqueline?
There's been other female refs..I recall The Billionare Princess(tm), Sable(talk about vanishing), and I think, Terri have donned the stripes...I'm sure there are others...

Ya, but they don't really count because they weren't fulltime refs which is apparently what Jackie is becoming.
I think it's just an angle, so she has something... She'll probably ref a match with Jazz, or Lita, and screw said chick over, thus starting a feud.......
Yeah, I meant full-time female referees (like Dee Kantner in the NBA), not special one-shot guest referees ...
So CRZ, you say her story was well-known (and I do remember the sexual harassment lawsuits brought against the WWF back then) but you don't mention what her actual position in the WWF was ... Don't hold out on me, cuz!
/mod Woops, never mind ... I did what I should have done in the first place, and searched her name on Google; I guess she really was a female ref.
Strange, never recall seeing a woman as a full-time referee in the WWF, though ...
I remember Rita from mid-80s WWF TV programs. Just a regular ref--this was in the pre-Hebner, pre-Davis days when refs rarely got involved in anything beyond the basics. I don't believe anyone made a big deal at the time about a female ref.
I sorta miss those days. I remember Dick Wohrle. He was a regular sized guy, but he had that authoritarian vibe where you knew he wouldn't put up with any nonsense.
"Worship the Hardys, but you know--eat a salad once in a while."--Stevie Richards.
I believe that there was a female ref in the 80's named Mike McGuirk. I only remember this because I recall Gorilla Monsoon saying "the ref, the lovely Mike McGuirk" and having no idea who he was talking about.
They gotta bring these back!!!: "talk to the hand because the man don't understand." - "The Crippler" Chris Benoit "...and that is the LAST WORD." - "The Big Nasty" Paul Wight and of course: "Don't hate the playa...HATE THE GAME~!" - WCW World Champion Booker T

Mike McGurk (sp?) was actually the old ring announcer on Wrestling Challenge. Bobby Heenan always made fun of her for her outfits, because she always wore these loud outfits and a suit jacket with tails. She looked like a lawn jockey. I'm glad somebody mentioned her... I downloaded the ROM off the old WWF Superstars arcade game, and she's in it. I was trying to explain to somebody who she was but forgot the name.
The Brawler info was news to me too, but yes, that does explain many things.

I just recently read in one of Travis Martin's ROH reports that both Jack Evans and Ted Hart were at a show. While Jack apparently impressed, Ted made a pretty big fool of himself. I know Jack, and I think he's a really great guy.
