Threads that go a week without a post automatically get closed. So it's nothing you said wrong.
Registration for a board makes sense if you believe that no one should get the mininum from a site (reading posts) without giving the mininum to a site (registring for an account.)
It also helps keep down people posting with 20 different names and having conversations with themselves. Makes banning those who deserve it possible too.

Registering to post is one thing, but registering to read? I can kinda see cubsfans point, but no one else does it and the way it comes and goes seems weird.
We used to require registration to read anything, but now we let unregistered users see the wrestling and feedback forums. Then again, we also require you to post or you get deleted. Keeps both the lurkers and the riff raff out (well, the riff raff with no concept of sentence structure or basic spelling skills anyway). :)

Several lesser reasons, but the main one is we got to the point before where the forum was becoming bigger than the front page and it wound up splitting the site in half. The side that stayed wants to be sure the focus stays on the writing. Once you're committed enough to register, join, and post we figure you've invested enough time in the front page to take advantage of the VIP benefits in the back room.
And we don't require constant feedback. ONE POST and the membership becomes perm. :)

We had a problem with an idiot spammer who decided to bump dozens and dozens of old topics and post porno everywhere. We tried to ban him, but he changed his IP address so we had to turn off registration.
You can register again now (and please do if you haven't!).
To be honest, the thing is that i'm not that expert at computers and the internet, and i'm wary of giving out my e-mail in case of spam, viruses, hackers or who knows what.
Maybe none of this is a problem and i'm just being a wuss, but then again maybe other people know how to deal with these problems, or accept them as inevitable pitfalls of using the internet. The problem is i don't know one way or the other.

You can always use one of the "free" email services and give THAT address out, then never check it. Lots of people with other real email addresses also have a Hotmail address for that very reason.
