How can I tell that Roger Simmermaker was on Fox News Channel's "Your World with Neil Cavuto" at approximately 1337 PST on Monday? Over the course of the next ten minutes, we got over a hundred referrals to this thread Guru started about howtobuyamerican.com almost a year ago (The W). I headed over to the site to see if there was any correlation, and sure enough, there's the Fox News appearance announcement.
I guess for me, the curious part is that when people search for "howtobuyamerican.com," they actually click on US instead of, you know, the howtobuyamerican.com WEBSITE. Maybe it was down from the sudden rush of people? (I know WE weren't.) Maybe viewers of Fox News aren't too bright? (MAYBE.) Anyway, we maxed out at 118 simultaneous searchers (for ALL terms), skewing yesterday's daily maximum to 176, our new #2 daily high.
I think the referrals thing is pretty intesting, Chris - but do you have a little icon guide hiding someplace of what the referal icons are? I mean, I got Google and Yahoo figured out - and maybe another couple of them from time to time - but most of them? No.
(after thinking about it - oh, if you hover, you see the name. I am not as smart as I thunk I was)

You should be able to mouse over them to get a popup telling you what it represents. (Or you could just click on the search URL and see where it takes you.)

Speaking of mousing over, right now on the referrals page, if I mouse over the U.S. flag, the pop-up says ".com". Though it works correctly in the profiles and threads. I'm using IE 5.1 on Mac OS 9.22, btw.

This is the correct action, although sometimes you might find it'll say ".net" or ".org" or something else - or even, very rarely, "United States" IF the referring URL is from the .us top level domain. So what I'm saying is the flag isn't necessarily representative of the visitor; rather, it's derived from the URL of the referrer. This is different behaviour from the user profiles, which get their flags assigned from IP address lookups and don't necessarily rely on hostnames.
Why wouldn't someone just type howtobuyamerican.com into their browser instead of into a search engine? People should be issued licenses to be in the internet, I tell ya...
