Meh. Didn't really seem worth the hype. And length does not equal greatness.

All that hype was just for one big rip on Scott Keith and Canada? Sigh. Not a bad idea for a story, and the APA dialogue and the Goldberg-wants-$100000 bits were actually pretty funny. Like the rest of his "I'm a REAL writer!!!" posts, however, Hyatte runs out of steam about halfway through. The HoYay! stuff was also just really weird and felt tacked-on [/Jay Sherman]. All in all, a story that probably won't get Chris any closer to shagging Trish Stratus.

And now, the previous post as written by Chris Hyatte.

What a complete waste of time that was...I read maybe a quarter of it, before I asked myself why???

That was a steaming pile of crap..

"You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named 'Bush', 'Dick', and 'Colon.
Need I say more?"

I felt that this was written by somebody who didn't know how to write a story. All I ever read was plot and Scott Keith jokes. I have enjoyed his AAT's in the past, but I kept getting the sneaking suspicion that if Grutman had done A Wrestling Tale with the same idea, it would have been worlds better. Putting aside all irony that comes with the statement, Hyatte is a Grutman ripoff.

I found it very entertaining. However, it definately was not a year's worth of work. As I mentioned in a feedback email, if he could knock one of these out a month, then he deserves his spot near the top of the IWC totem pole.

Awful column and this is coming from a big Hyatte fan (even though he makes fun of me most of the time). It took him a year to write his column and it took me a year to read it.

I'm floored! I never thought someone from Flea's site would have the nads to come out and say they didn't like it! Do I smell an online feud coming on?

There won't be an online feud because, quite frankly, he has 100x times readers than I do so I don't think he'd be up for it.

We write for the same site but I can't help but point out how much this column was a overhyped and endless sorry excuse of a column. Maybe Hyatte lost it, who knows.

Whilst it didn't live up to the hype, I found it a highly enjoyable read. The stuff about Trish coming back with a DVD player was priceless - there are lots of little jokes in there that many wouldn't "get" but to those that did get them they proved to be hilarious. I'll give it *** 1/2.

Ok, I "get" the Trish scene. Hyatte wants her bad, so he's Y2Q, but he knows it's a pipe dream. Fine. But I can't understand what he's trying to get out of the story (except a date with Trish); is it a comedy? Because it could have been a lot funnier. Is it a condemnation of the IWC? Because when your spokesperson spends about as much time talking about T-shirt sales, etc. (good points, I'll grant you) as he is BEING RAPED, it kind of waters down the message. There were some enjoyable moments, mostly the Trish and APA scenes, but Hyatte is really scaring me at the level of obsession he has with Scott Keith. It stopped being funny awhile ago (I'd say the feud, to use an overused cliche, jumped the shark when he posted the dating service item); now this is turning into a personal hatred. Hyatte can't blow this off as putting an IWC icon in his place anymore. If he is willing to spend a year hyping what turns out to be a really long joke at the NetCop, maybe it's time for another Hyatte-us.

I think his dislike for Scott Keith is down to jealousy - although it is entertaining to read Hyatte making fun, at least it was the first 200 times or so. Yeah, it's wearing thin.

All very good points. However, I think that if this hadn't been hyped as the culmination of a year's effort or as the difinitive piece that would bring him back to the top, then it would have been received better. He killed whatever praise he would have received otherwise himself.

(And I'll admit, I didn't even get that he was Y2Q, just because I wouldn't think he'd paint himself as a mindless Keith follower)

Like a lot of people, Hyatte was my inspiration for wanting to write about wrestling. Truly one of the funniest people the net has ever seen, and he could pull a reference from anywhere. It was like art.

That said, clicking the link at the top of this page was a pretty depressing way to start the holiday. There were really funny moments, but finding them was solving a bigger mystery than the story was.

Well, I didn't mean Y2Q was Hyatte in every scene, I meant more the Trish scenes.

I just don't understand how Hyatte could have dug himself in such a hole. Read the end of his Midnight News this week. Have you been reminded why he's the "King of the Net for a damn good reason"? If you haven't read Hyatte before, have you now been blown away? Were you staggered by the intensity of his very best?

I don't know. I smell a set-up. I can guarantee, however, that Hyatte will be searching every board there is for a mention of his name and a quote to put in the next Midnight News. Is he going to listen to the almost overwhelmingly negative response that I've seen, or is he going to blow it off and say "you ARE idiots if you blow it off so easily"? Or is he going to take his ball and go home? I mean, I've kind of enjoyed the guy in the past. First thing I ever read of the guy was his X8 Mop-Up (one of the first things I ever read on 411, in fact; I went there after the Smarks ended). But I don't see how he's as important as he says he is. I know, I know, he delivered Grut, Flea, Eric S., and Scott Keith (all of whom I read and enjoy). But that was 2 years ago. The IWC is not Amway. You do not contintue to get points for people you bring into the system and what they accomplish.

Or is this all leading to 411Black?

so far I've read til chapter 3.

- scott keith is an asshole. everyone knows it. why write an entire column about it?

- hyatte has written great wrestling novels. "alexander wept" and "the road" are certainely better.

- it's sad, but the IWCC is definitely the best caricature for us net marks.

- after weeks of pimping this is not what I was expecting at all. a novel? wow... so what?

I think the guy is done. all hype and no subsstance.

but that's true for 90% of the net today, so I guess it's cool...

It's a LOT better on the second (and not as hung-over... and while the Lions are winning) read. In fact, I completely reverse my stance. I dug this.

Let's face it - It 's nothing more than fan fiction. Enjoyable, but not worthy of any critical dissection.

Exactly. Fan-fiction, albeit quite entertaining at points. With all the hype I didn't know what to expect, but this wasn't it. Having two male rapes seemed stupid and the Scott Keith angle obsessive. Shouldn't it be on 411 by now?

I don't think the article will ever make its way to 411, otherwise it'd be already there by now. Maybe Ashish or Widro read it and didn't want to post it (too much SK bashing could be a reason).

I can't believe that we had all this hype only to get a long-winded story making fun of Scott Keith.

It seems like all you have to do to get quoted is mention Hyatte's name. He's as big a mark for his own name as anybody else online. Not that I don't like him. He's actually the only columnist outside of Weekly Visitor that I like.
