So you'd rather see the big names slug it out than the teams who are playing better hockey? And you also don't like plucky underdogs? And you don't like 5OT Playoff games? What's wrong with you man?

Eh. I guess I'm still a mark when it comes to hockey. Wherein I don't quite care who plays the better GAME, I care WHO plays the better game. But that's just me.

Not at all. The Canucks had something like 17 shots on net, and all three of their goals were on the powerplay. We still pulled off the win though, and it's good to see the pp is starting to work.

Also, Ed Jovanoski has 3 goals already in this series, and 5 in the playoffs.

And a final with any 2 of those 4 teams is going to be a nightmare for ABC, and destroy the NHL's TV contract that opens up this summer.

Ottawa v. Vancouver, should it happen, is almost the least marketable final possible, in the US. (OK, Ottawa/Calgary would be the least marketable possible, but this right up there. or down there. whichever.)

Even NJ/Anaheim would not be that great, from ABC's point of view. I'm just across the river from NJ, and really, no one in NY cares about the Devils at all. It's pretty sad.

There's something the Devils that just inspires apathy or dislike. I would be fine with any team winning the Cup this year (even Anaheim) just as long as the Devils lose.

That being said, I have a bad feeling that Ottawa is going to get smoked in the semi-finals. Let's hope the Western conference team can take them out.

Hey, Ottawa's not IN the semis yet. Let's not go crazy yet... (They'll probably get there, but I think the Flyers will take them to seven, and stranger things have happened.)

The Devils play boring (winning, but boring) hockey, don't have a home city (if they win, they'll take a victory lap around their parking lot in lieu of an actual parade), and have fans that have Atlanta Braves Syndrome ("Oh, we won again. That's nice.")

As for the other series, if Giguere doesn't play well tonight, all bets are off; nobody wants to face a Game 7 in Dallas. I don't give the Canuckleheads much chance against either Anaheim or Dallas, but they'll make it interesting if Minnesota continues to fold.

I fully expect the Flyers and Stars to force Game 7's in their series and the Canucks should take out the Wild but as these playoffs have shown, anything can happen - I'm just hoping (as I always do) for multiple OT games

as for the devils, apathy runs wild for devils in most of the NYC area - we have trouble giving away our corporate seats for the devils (NYR tix are still gold) - I personally think that if the swamp wasn't so hard for the average fan to get to than they would have a better fan base but there is no reliable transportation from NYC so who would want to schlepp out there for a game ???

So now the stage has almost been set. Once again the Ducks have some time off to think about themselves and reflect on if they can be the next team to win a cup based on the play of their goalie. The Sens have disposed of the Flyers and aquitted themselves well. They must now face New Jersey, who have had time to spare since eliminating Tampa. The Wild continue to hold on against the Canucks.

What a playoffs!

A note to my fellow Flyers Stepfords^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hfans:

Before you clean, stuff, mount and burn Cechmanek, take a minute to think. Sure, he gave up some soft goals in the series; he also pitched shutouts in the two games the Flyers won. On the other end of the ice, the Flyers' goal totals over six games were... 2, 2, 2, 1, 2 and 1.

Wait, the Flyers had problems scoring goals against Ottawa? When have I heard that refrain before?

Meaningful stat: The Flyers' power play was 0-for-17 FOR THE SERIES. The Senators scored two shorthanded goals over the six games. When your power play is MINUS TWO over a second-round series, that's not bad goaltending letting you down -- that's bad hockey.

Go Ducks. (And Go Sens Go -- somebody's gotta beat the Devils.)

As a Senators fan, I actually felt bad for both Cechmanek and Ken Hitchcock. Philly's defense completely allowed the Sens to skate all over the place. In particular, during Ottawa's 4th goal, Philly's D looked lazier than Kevin Nash on his best worst day. Of course, I feel bad for Hitchcock for the same reasons...

But, I'm a happy Sens fan, so BRING IT, JERSEY!
