Whoa! Could you imagine? Yeah, they brought Bob Odenkirk to play a Michael Scott-like role when Pam was interviewing for a job in Philly.

I could see Adam Scott making a good Jim Halpert.

Imagine how wasted Eric Stonestreet would have been playing Kevin for 9 seasons.

I think that's a great what-if, because who's to say that Kevin's role doesn't fill out more? Is it possible that Stonestreet is able to drive Kevin in a direction where he can carru an arc, or does he stay as a background bit-player the whole time? I could see him turning Kevin into an Andy Bernard like character (look at his evolution), but I know that what Stonestreet is capable of based on Cam and other appearances. Stonestreet at least seems to play different characters when he shows up, where it seems that everytime I've seen Brian Baumgartner, its usually in a small, Kevin-like role.

Plus, how does Modern Family fare with whomever winds up as Cam? Would Cam and Mitchell be as good with a different actor?

Actually, Andy Richter was reportedly under consideration to play Cam, so much so that the Modern Family producers originally said they were looking for "an Andy Richter type" in auditions.

Adam Scott would've indeed been a tremendous Jim Halpert. It's not too far removed a part from Scott's eventual work on Party Down, either.

I feel like Andy Richter was too well known for Cam. Still, that adds an interesting layer to the what-if scenario. I feel like Stonestreet is better than Richter which is why I'm guessing he beat him out. Plus, Andy doesn't go back to Conan if he nabs Modern Family.

Adam Scott would have worked as Jim, but does Krasinski ever land anywhere if Scott gets the role? Plus, I feel like Scott's characters are always smart regardless of whether or not they act that way. Jim wasn't dumb, but I think Krasinski gives him a little more 'average guy' vibe.

I can't decide which seems more bizarre to me: Kathryn Hahn as Pam or Seth freaking Rogen as Dwight.

Hahn as Pam would have necessarily taken the character a completely different direction. I've always loved her as the screw-loose, oversexed troublemaker. I don't know that she could ever work as the lovable underdog-turned-working mom.

Rogen probably could pull off Dwight, but Rainn Wilson so made Dwight his own creature that it's going to be pretty much impossible for me to envision anybody else playing that role. Still, it's pretty weird seeing him trying to play the quiet weirdo instead of the loud, abrasive weirdo.

EDIT: Not to mention that Rogen was only 21 (maybe 20!) when he auditioned, and 22 when the first season aired.

I believe they considered having a Gareth-like Dwight who was Jim's age, as well as the initial version of the character Gervais/Merchant had conceived of, who was a weird older guy.

As odd as it is, I don't think there's been an episode solely establishing Roberta as a problem child. At least they're attempting to give her some sort of character, as opposed to shuffling her into the background. Well...
