Well, if Catherine Tate is back and running the office in Scranton, I weep for this show. I can not stand her character. She is the least funny character EVER on this show. I was enjoying this season up to tonight. It just got worse. I hope she is around only for the short term - like two weeks.
It's pretty clear, especially this week, you're not supposed to like Nellie. She's an unstable element, she's admittedly unprepared and undeserving of where she is at Sabre, and she's set up as a villain who stole Andy's job while he was chasing after Erin. Nellie could never exist during the Michael Scott era because for all his faults, Michael would never surrender the job of Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin (Sabre) Scranton to anyone.
The nap joke with Pam was funnier when Dwight and Jim gave it as an option to Kelly during IT IS YOUR BIRTHDAY.
@CMPunk
“@ZackRyder: @CMPunk She played me bro” I got your back.
I get what you're saying, but to me Nellie just makes me hate watching the show. Her character is basically just Michael Scott's lines (which is basically what Andy's been doing this season too) but her character is just obnoxious and unlikable that she just turns you away as a viewer.
I think the closest thing to a compliment we had for her here was my girlfriend describing her as "kind of like a mentally challenged version of Amy Adams' character from Enchanted".
I too hope she's only around for two weeks, with this week being one of them.

Amen Tribal. My fear is she stays on the rest of the season and the ratings plummet and the show is cancelled. I know I am in minority, but I do like the show still and would like to see it end with Nellie not around.
See, like the workers and Robert themselves, I actually found myself being more and more won over by Nellie as the episode went on. It helped that the actual concept of the show was really funny, with her just outright taking the job, Robert being all "let's see how this plays out" --- that scene with him explaining the sexual metaphor to Jim was probably Robert's funniest scene on the show, to boot.
"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." --- Bart Giamatti, on baseball
Considering Catherine Tate's name on the credits, coming after Ed Helms and James Spader and before the grouping of Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Creed Bratton, and Kate Flannery, it sure does seem like she's not going to be just a week or two option, she's going to be around for the long haul. Although, considering as much as I disliked her in the job interview from last year and the Tallahassee episodes (we still miss you, Florida Stanley), she did grow on me this week. With Andy being the pushover that he is, it's a move that makes sense. He never really seemed comfortable in the Regional Manager chair.
Nellie is just awful. And seeing Robert just allow her to do what she did doesn't strike me as in-character for him (though her friendship with Jo may have forced him to let it play out as it did). She's just so one-dimensional and seeing everyone clap for her at the end was just an eye-rolling moment. I'm really not a huge fan of upping the crazy quotient in the manager's position.

Whereas every other character -- no matter how goofy or zany -- has been in some way grounded, Nellie is a one-dimensional caricature of a real person.

Bingo. As zany as Michael was, he just was a guy who wanted the wife, kids, and white picket fence, but had no idea the right way of getting it.

Lest we forget, Robert got the CEO position by driving to Florida & convincing Jo to step aside & give it to him, so I'm not so sure allowing Nellie to take over is really out of character for him.

I was hoping that Erin and Andy would decide to stay in Florida together, although that'll deny us next week's Andy-Nellie confrontation where he's going to lose his job. (And no showing work like that, for as non-sensical as Nellie was in taking the job, is a perfectly logical reason for Andy to lose it. Although, that's similar to Jessica losing her boyfriend because she wasn't around to defend him from Erin.)
I kinda wish Jim and Pam would just quit and find normal places to work. Or at least Jim could quit, since Pam admitted she likes it there, and was even accepting enough to clap for Nellie. If Jim can sell paper for so long, surely he can find another sales job that is just as lucrative. And then maybe he can get Pam to jump ship with him...
Add me to the list that wants to see David Wallace again.
This only feels like The Office in the quick opening skits. The plots of late have just been off. I'll keep watching, but this show should have stayed in Florida because its basically an old person waiting to die.

I've noticed a recurring trend this season of characters using catchphrases in an ironic sense, like Magnitude's "Pop Pop!" being used in an act of rage rather than jubilation, and Abed saying "Cool. Coolcoolcool.
