So we lost the Rangers AND the Devils tonight. Unbelievable!
Wish they'd have shown that third period on Versus!
I took a gamble and took players from only two teams in my hockey pool who I thought would make the finals: Jersey and San Jose. I went from having all of my players to having none in less than 24 hours.
There is some high-fiving at NHL headquarters over the Ovechkin vs. Crosby matchup in round two.
Kirk, crackers are a family food. Happy families. Maybe single people eat crackers, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know. It's a market we can do without.

Oh hell yeah.
This series is gonna take the Flyers/Pens fans hatred for each other up another level.
Should be interesting to see if Ovechkin is again gonna be spending a portion of his time and energy taking runs at Malkin rather than just giving all of his attention on scoring.

I watched most of the third period and when they got the first of the last two goals, I was groaning at the idea of overtime. Then they got the go-ahead and I was just as stunned as the Devils and their fans appeared to be.

Wish they'd show hockey on a better-recognized network!
Where is ESPN even going to fit playoff hockey games? They turn the whole network over to NBA playoffs in April and May now. At least Versus shuts down all its programming every night. Best case would probably be for them to each show some games.
I forgot to check if I even have the ability to get the channels, but does NHL Center Ice still show 'em? I seem to remember it was free during the playoffs many years back...or perhaps it was a fevered dream...
As for Versus, I'm really happy with their coverage. I'd still love more games on NBC, but I'll take what I can get.
I like NBC's coverage, but unfortunately the network itself seems to treat it like a second class sport. I just remember coverage of a playoff game ending abruptly so NBC could show a horse race or something like that.
And JMS - I'm not asking for them to show hockey on ESPN, but how many people knew Vs. existed before they covered the NHL?

And now I face the threat of that this Saturday.

I understand, and Outdoor Life Network made for a great punchline. But I think the league and the network have helped each other, kind of like UFC and Spike. And if not ESPN, then where else is there to be? Which is why, like I said, I'd be all for games on deals with both networks; that way, the league can have the credibility and exposure of being on the real sports channel, but Versus can do all the heavy lifting.

I have MSG and MSG+, so I stayed away from Versus entirely last night, and just flipped over for the excitement after the Rangers finished screwing the pooch in DC. What I can say, is that on another board where I hang out for the whole real-time posting thing, people were IRATE over this. More so, since the impression that most people got from Versus, and the NHL's own schedule page, was that they'd at least get to see the end of the Canes-Devils game after Rangers-Caps was through. Instead, they got 2 minutes, and some lame explanation about "contractual obligations".
Versus aside, I find it amazing, and it was really highlighted the past 2 nights, when you had both Chicago and Anaheim closing out their series, and yesterday with the Game 7s is that the NHL apparently didn't even consider their own network as an overflow option. NBA TV shows playoff games, I'm sure the MLB Network's at least considering the possibility, and if Fox, NBC, CBS, and ESPN all for some absurd reason passed on a playoff game, the NFL Network would jump all over it. Since I'm too far away from NYC to get hit with the blackout rules, I too often had the choice of Caps/Rangers on MSG, or Caps/Rangers on Versus. And then I'm off stream hunting for Bruins/Habs, or Jackets/Wings, or any other game, and the NHL Network has...Voices with Peter Maher. It's the biggest time of the year for hockey, and the NHL seems to be dropping the ball worse than usual this year. There are 3 Canes/Bruins games listed as JIP for the next round, wonder how much of those games will actually make it to air, especially when you consider that Canes/Devils was possibly the best series last round, and had just 1 game nationally televised.

NHL Center Ice did indeed have the Devils/Canes game (HD).
But not for free. You'd have to subscribe to the NHL Center Ice package.
Or the MLB Extra Innings package which shares channels with the NHL package, at least on the system I'm on, so the NHL package was open for the last month of the regular season + playoffs as well as the first 4-6 weeks of the regular season.
