You can guess that I am using a different meaning of the word "offensive". Watched the first two New York drives as their offense sliced through the Browns D like a hot knife through butter. Then watched the Browns offense re-enact my favorite Case Western Reserve cheer - "First and 10, second and 20, third and thirty, PUNT!" Just terrible. Garcia is looking completely ineffective, but hey, Morgan hung onto a ball this time. You know things are going REALLY badly when you challenge a call to try to get first down placement off of a reception and end up having the play REVERSED and called an incompletion. Sigh.
I am still quite happy about the first week victory, but the rest of the season looks pretty lost. Even though the injury bug decimated this team last week, I gotta think Davis is on the hot seat. I mean really, there is *zero* depth and he's been around long enough to have gotten some decent players by now. Only problem is, who do the Browns get in his place?
If this does come to pass, I would be disheartened. I really thought Davis was going to be the guy to turn the team around. Instead he seems to be suffering the "too-much-power" problem that seemed to plague Holmgren in Seattle. I think Cleveland could really use a top-notch GM and let Davis just stick to coaching.

So do you guys miss Couch yet? And how much longer does Butch Davis go without giving Kelly Holcomb a another shot?

This reminds me a little bit of when Butch was coaching at U Miami. Granted, they were under probation sanctions from the NCAA for several years, and that was part of the problem. However, it was a very mediocre time for UM. Hell, from 1994-1997, we only went to two Bowl games (and only won one of them). A lot of 8-3 and 9-3 seasons (with UM's worst season in about 25 years in 1997, going 5-6). Going 0-2 against fucking East Carolina. Going 0-5 against both FSU and Virginia Tech from 1995-1999. The last minute loss to #1 Penn State in the Orange Bowl in 1999.
2000, there was no question that Butch was on the hot seat at UM. And an early loss at Washington didn't do much to help. But that was the year we finally beat both Virginia Tech and Florida State (Dorsey-to-Shockey and Wide Right III, baby!). UM ran the table and went 11-1, and was ranked #2 in two polls - with people saying that they should've faced Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, and not FSU. My opinion is that Butch realized it wasn't going to get any better for him, and with the NFL calling, took the money and ran. Of course, next season, Larry Coker took over as head coach on relatively short notice and won it all in his first season as a head coach with Butch's guys (of course, having Ken Dorsey, Clinton Portis, Andre Johnson, Ed Reed, and many many others helps out quite a bit).
But IMHO, Butch has always been overrated as a head coach.

1) Absolutely not. He couldn't cut the mustard as a *backup* pickup in Green Bay, we're not missing anything without him. At least Garcia is more mobile - neither of them has a great arm.
2) Holcomb is a great backup and is electric coming off the bench. He sucks as a starter, though - last year proved that much.

Well, I certainly wasn't claiming you couldn't hit it - but I still don't know why you would be kicking the ball straight down the middle of the field instead of trying to put it in a corner.
