Hi, I had the Disc read error for a long time and I haven't been able to play. Recently I found the best tutorial ever it has step by step information and photos.
Guess he's referring to this thread (The W). I hate to say it, but if you're still having this problem 10 months later and haven't either taken your PS2 in to be fixed, or replaced it altogether, I'm not sure you can be helped. ;-) Wonder if he'll come back...
My PS2 crapped out for reasons seperate from the dreaded DRE, apparently a graphics card burnt out or something, and whenever I tried to play certain games, they'd run fine, save for the characters looking like the had been exploded. Pixels everywhere, man, not a pretty sight.
Hi, Its not that I was having it for 10 months. Every month it became worst and worst, the tutorial teach you how to clean the lens and how to make it work again. I am sure that in time I will have to do it again, but at least now it works great.

The fix worked for me for a while, but it wasn't 100% effective so I eventually just replaced it, seeing as they are only $100. or so anymore.

One of the other causes, is that the gear itself, only being plastic, will tend to wear down, and not work correctly anymore. When you hear a clicking noise before getting the DRE, that is what the cause is.
