Hmmm, I guess you're right. The always reliable Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org) says it's a Nor'easter thing. And they're "hundreds-and-thousands" in the British realm.

Mostly Massachusetts and Maine from my experience. I hate the term and always make it a point to order "SPRINKLES!" instead, no matter how weird it sounds.
Lloyd: When I met Mary, I got that old fashioned romantic feeling, where I'd do anything to bone her. Harry: That's a special feeling.

They've ALWAYS been "Jimmies" to me, though I've never seen them packaged that way. IJ knows to call them as such - just like she knows it's wicked hot outside. :)

Yep, definitely (at least) a Massachusetts thing. My grandma taught me "jimmies", "tonic", and "bubbler" to name a few.
"As you may have read in Robert Parker's Wine Newsletter, 'Donaghy Estates tastes like the urine of Satan, after a hefty portion of asparagus.'" Jack Donaghy, 30 Rock
I remember way back in maybe the 70's hearing them referred to as jimmies, so it's recognizable to me. It seems as though it has been a long, long time since then!

Y'know, I was gonna make a snarky remark about not trading my summer weather for your winter weather, but when I looked up info on the climate in Seattle (en.wikipedia.org), I got jealous.-- Quit bragging!
Originally posted by wikipedia.comAs for temperature, winters are cool and wet with average lows around 3540 F (24 C) on winter nights. Colder weather can occur, but seldom lasts more than a few days. Summers are dry and warm, with average daytime highs around 7380 F (22.226.7 C). Hotter weather usually occurs only during a few summer days. Seattle's hottest official recorded temperature was 100 F (37.8 C) on July 20, 1994; the coldest recorded temperature was 0 F (-18 C) on January 31, 1950.

Bubbler? Do you mean a drinking fountain? I thought that was just a Wisconsin thing.
No that's something that Wisconsin and Massachusetts share, for some reason. A professor at Harvard University (now teaching at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee) did a survey of various US English dialectic differences.
The results of the bubbler/water fountain/drinking fountain question can be found here.
Was trying to find if he asked about jimmies and sprinkles, but I can't find it.
I learned a lot of interesting things by reading the survey. F'rinstance, there are places with drive-thru liquor stores? That's crazy.

She's absolutely correct. Colored sprinkles are Rainbow Sprinkles. Chocolate sprinkles are jimmies. I have trained all my children in the correct ordering of toppings for their ice cream.
Welcome home, men of the 2nd Bn, 127th Inf, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army Nat'l Guard! Good luck to those down south.
Wow...from that angle, the Bird's Nest looks like a bratwurst getting the Hindenburg (read: gray skin burns off and you see the metal endoskeleton) treatment.
Ah, the Summer Olympics are back...even if hosted by a totalitarian Commie nation.
