After about a year of me grumbling about the TV title's underuse, TNA has finally given me some closure. The title has not been defended (at least on tv/ppv) since Slammiversary 2013, although Bad Influence tried to get shots at it in November 2013. It has occasionally been mentioned since then by Joe and EY in reference to their past reigns with it.
Kurt – “The TV Title was left dormant by the Dixie Carter and MVP administrations for over a year. Taking over as Executive Director has required me to fix issues they left behind. Championships are the reward of competition inside the ring between wrestlers striving to be the best. As of now, the TV Title is inactive. I’m looking for our roster to step up their level of competition and wrestle on a higher level for the World Heavyweight, X-Division, Knockout and World Tag Team Championships.”
I remain disappointed that they never managed to consistently get into the right groove with the title, except for Devon's weekly title defense era. They could have made quite the nice little division with Bram, Gunner, Shaw, The Freak, Godderz, and any main-eventers who needed a break from being overused in the world title picture. Aries's occasional return to the X-Division freshens his character up. The TV division could have done the same for guys like Roode and Bully Ray - people who had already told their story as world champion, but who still would work well as a champion.
Joe's cynical character is probably thinking that the reason Angle wanted to eliminate the TV title is that it was the only TNA Mens' title that Angle never held.
TNA now has four titles (the World Heavyweight, World Tag Team, X-Division, and Knockouts). The Knockouts Tag Team Championship was implicitly retired last year.
This ends Abyss's second reign as TV Champion. Interestingly, his first reign also ended due to it being stripped from him. That time was due to a kayfabe injury received by Abyss when (Main Event Mafia 2.0 Era) Crimson stabbed Abyss with Janice.
