Vince's got enough money, this isn't going to hurt him. Hell, if history is an indication stepping over the line only helps.

"Stepping over the line" might help if we're talking about, say, Stone Cold using foul language or DX telling people to "suck it". But I can't ever recall an angle like terrorism (or necrophilia or implied rape) ever drawing money. All I can recall happening is that people got pissed off by it and thought it had no place in pro wrestling.

If RECENT history is an indication, numbers are continuing to trend downward, and there are plenty of those who would argue that "ideas" like the angle on Thursday tend to hasten the downswing instead of reversing it.

MY impression is that you're not really reading Justin's posts, as you seem to be ascribing opinions to him which he hasn't expressed. Maybe go back and read the entire thread again.
I get the impression you didn't read my posts or his. He said wrestling isn't on the same level as 24. I said bull, entertainment is entertainment. I've done nothing but go point for point with him.

He even said that I was a die-hard loyalist just for arguing the theater/entertainment to wrestling. Who's ascribing opinions to whom there?

As for hurting business, it's a publicly traded company. If Vince fucks up bad enough it'll become someone else's sandbox sooner or later, far before the company goes under. Even if he's made of the same Teflon as Eisner.

See, I'M already tired of the pissing and moaning. They'd be wisest to drop it without a trace, but if history is an indication Hassan will unify the world championships while Vince desperately tries to get ANYBODY not on an Internet message board to talk about the WWE.

No matter how in love they are with an idea, if it falls hard enough on its face they'll drop it before you can say "Mordecai."

The most interesting part of that post was the fact that you admitted this is an issue only to the Internet. Hard to hurt the image of the fed when only us message board monkeys care isn't it?

Guilty. Kneejerk reaction to the soapbox comment.

Then again if I wanted to say "son of a bitch" I would type out the "itch."

I think "son of a B" sounds funnier.

My last post is the most overwrought thing I've written on The Wienerboard since the last one, so I am going to stop talking about Thursday's angle 'til we see if it was just one bizarre occurrence or a charming new direction for Hassan. If I go on any longer then the indy workers dressed up as terrorists have truly won.

I have to vehemently disagree with the assertion that Satanism be lumped in with terrorism or necrophilia. While nothing has been proven yet in regards to terrorism, it is doubtful that this would be a money maker since it is an upper-mid-card feud at best. Necrophilia was a disaster. No redeeming quality, and it didn't make money. Satanism though has been a money maker on at least 2 occasions. Florida in the early 80's for Sullivan/Rhodes was a big money feud for the time period. Austin vs. Satanic Taker in '99 printed money for Vince, and helped boost the company to a new level in the months prior to his stock release. There is a blueprint for Satanism to be done successfully in pro wrestling. Now, if you want to replace Satanism with voodoo, I'm in full agreement.

When does Benoit get his US title shot? Will they finally put the US title back on a respectable wrestler instead of a glorified jobber that is Jordan? The revived US title has been in a downward spiral ever since Big Show won it from Eddy in 2003. Give the title to Benoit (never held it in WWE) and put him into some feuds with Mysterio, Eddy, and Booker T to perhaps elevate the title once again.

Its pretty sad how WWE just fired so many quality workers, while their title divisions are basically dead right now. This includes the tag team divisions on BOTH rosters, the CW title division, and the US and IC title divisions. Oh, and the Women's title which is as dead as a doornail since they basically fired all their DIVAS that could wrestle.

Two weeks and only 3 matches announced for a 35 dollar show? None of which look particularly worth that amount of money? No wonder WWE is in the gutter and I switched to TNA.

FWIW, they tape Velocity and Heat (and Experience) on Wednesdays typically.

They could've had time to change it around after. I dunno. (See last post.)

Rob Conway got drafted over to Smackdown after all?

Are you trying to say that this is worse than every other Smackdown! PPV?

With two weeks left to go, they have never had the 3 top matches announced and/or built up. Plus, you could pretty much predict the rest of the card.

Oh, and WWE in the gutter? Not as good as last year but better than analysts' predictions is not in the gutter.

Not very much. But this is something TNA has proven to be much more adept at doing.

And no I'm not saying this is worse, but its pretty bad for a 35 dollar show. And there's nothing on this card to indicate its worth 35 dollars as a whole. Not to mention most of their title divisions are borderline dead. Sorry, its hard to get excited about a Jordan/Benoit US title match.

The thing that gets me about the whole terrorist thing is it's been three clear days since it aired in the States (obviously all reference was cut over here) and on WWE.com, there's nothing which even slightly resembles an apology. In the Smackdown results section, they even describe it as ambiguously as they possibly can.

Fuck WWE.

Why would they "apologize" for it? I mean, I understand that a lot of people on this board think it was in poor taste, but why would they have gone with the angle if they didn't think it was a good idea, and would have to apologize to the fans for it later?

Because circumstances changed drastically between Monday, when they taped the angle, and Thursday, when it aired. I don't know if they should have apologized for it, but that's certainly a good enough reason (IMO) if they did.

They ran a ticker on the bottom of the screen during SmackDown! and still ran the segment... that pretty much tells you how bad they feel about it. :)

This is posted on the wwe.com corporate site in the Parents section:

As many you may know, the characters Muhammad Hassan and Khosrow Daivari are U.S. citizens of Arab descent who have grown up in America. Hassan and Daivari have spoken out about the challenges and poor treatment they have faced being Arab-Americans in a post 9/11 America. They have taken these complaints, and the way they express them, to the extreme, insulting their country, their fellow Americans and the U.S. troops to the point where they have drawn the resentment of their fellow Superstars and WWE fans. Hassan now dresses in Arab garb as a way to express his dissatisfaction with America.

Hassan has grown increasingly frustrated in the WWE, believing that the powers that be are unfairly preventing him from getting a fair opportunity to challenge for a WWE title. He now uses his Arab heritage as an excuse for why he is not getting more opportunities to compete for a title. Hassan now believes that he deserves an opportunity to compete for the World Heavyweight Championship. Tonight, Hassan intensifies his quest to get that opportunity.

Parents may want to watch this segment tonight with their children.

In the real world, WWE believes that no matter what our race, religious creed or ethnic background in America, we all share the common bond of being Americans. We should all be open to the beliefs of individual Americans, recognizing that it is this diversity upon which America is based.

Oh oh oh oh oh oh I can't even get out a coherent sentence to deal with that. Really really horrible phrasing.

I know what they mean there, but the implied concept of 'wearing Arab clothes means you're anti-American' - well if Hassan really believes wearing 'Arab' clothes means you're dissatisfied with America, he really ought to get out more in Michigan.

(Not that it's so far from the WWE truth, I guess. Turban = evil! It's just weird to see it there in print.)

(that suit was not arab!)

(I still like the tie.)
