I agree, the promo certainly had some spine-tingling moments, but it took a little too long to get going and then it just sort of petered out with the beatdown. I think it would have been much better to have Foley beat Orton until Orton escaped the ring and just end it with Orton sitting on the ramp scared shitless. Oh well, it'll make for an awesome opening show recap next week.

Just a thought that occured to me after their teaming for the Rumble...Wouldn't it be cool if instead of having two commentater teams for the dual PPV's, they just used JR and Tazz, kind of like they used to use Monsoon and Ventura for the big PPV's while Monsoon had Heenan on Prime Time and Wrestling Challenge, and Ventura was Vince's color guy on Superstars? Give them a little more special feel?

I enjoyed tonight, but I still kind of have that "Rumble buzz" going. Liked the opening tag handicap match. Orton sold Foley's PROMO better than some of his actual match opponents.

Would somebody tuning in just after the Taker video aired wonder why WWE would have signed a member of Blue Man Group?

Best RAW I've seen in years. Everything just clicked. Great matches, great storylines and one of the best promos ever. What would normally be a really crappy segment with Rico/Conway was even saved by Nipple Gayda (Replacing Steph as the king of slips).

To the person who said the Mick promo was boring you are CRAZY! Dare I even say that Mick/Orton is being booked so well it could even main event Mania. This is a real feud. this feud has been going on like for about a year. (Since Orton threw Foley down the stairs.) This feud alone will make Orton a star.

Another thing, am I the only person who would REALLY rather see Stacy/Gayda then Wilson/Sable?

Now THAT is what you call a money promo.

Goddamnit Mick Foley. Where have ya been?

I was wondering why they were saving Foley's promo for the main event, but those ten minutes were a thousand miles better than any wrestling match they could have come up with. Actually, more than anything, it made me sad that WWE used his main event prime as a guy who takes a sock out of his pants or tears his hair out or is a corporate hippie, because the type of intensity Foley can convey on the mic is untouchable. Oh well, I suppose the only way the fans would actually listen to Foley now is if he had been that one guy who took the sock out of his pants four years ago.

But goddamn. This is the type of intensity that makes Mick Foley a lightyear ahead of everyone else who tries to cut a dramatic promo but fails miserably (cue HHH/HBK two weeks ago).

The rest of Raw was great, and every single match had relevence to Wrestlemania XX. Except Rico/Conway, but for some reason or other, we had TWO Jackie nipple shots.

--Kane/Taker segment kicked ass.
--The loud Benoit chant (louder than "top babyface" HBK's chant I might add) brought a tear to my eye.
--I would have splooged my pants if they had Jericho vs HHH, but I guess I am the only one who absolutely despises this Jericho/Trish angle. I don't know about you, but Jericho should be main eventing Raw each and every week right now with the belt on his waist. Even when he was tagging with Christian, there was still the hope that he could just break out and go singles to the top. But as long as this Trish angle is dragging him down, there is no hope of seeing Jericho being a part of a major feud (see: HBK one year ago) for Mania. It's not the angle that bothers me, it's the talent of Jericho they're wasting on a sappy midcard angle. Oh well, one net favorite at a time, and at least we have Benoit. Jericho's time will come eventually, there's no way around that.

Orton whiffing on the RKO brings me joy. As does Benoit. I can only hope that HHH will atone for going over last year by jobbing this year.

The ending saved what shaping up to be a lackluster promo from Foley. I like Mick and all but he was losing me with all the talk about excretory fluids being on him.

A good first hour and a shitty second hour make for an average show, but fuck it, the build for Wrestlemania is ON and I'm excited.

RAW Thoughts:

The opening contest was solid, except for the Gayda-like missed RKO. But Jericho did the right thing in not selling it....Ah, I've been there Jericho. Methinks he'll get the girl in the end, though....Decent women's tag, but Lita just doesn't look that good out there....The Trips/Shawn/Benoit thing was kept short, which is good. Good-enough promo from Benoit too....Nice job with Bischoff and Heyman on the phone, making it seem like it really IS war between the brands....Conway/Rico was good, but the crowd couldn't have cared less. I'm assuming the point of Stacy being out there was to add to the speculation of who the two divas in Playboy will be, because if it isn't, I totally missed the point....Taker video=AWESOME....Bubba/Kane was a waste....

"There wasn't even a cup of coffee for the Coach." I actually felt bad for him there for a second after that comment. Teddy Long saves the day on the mic AGAIN, and yes, Goldberg looks like a homeless man with that beard....Unbelievable final segment. That made the show, for me. Foley delivered, and Orton played his part well too. When Foley challenged Orton to come down, I said to my friends "Foley is gonna be bloodied by the end of RAW." Little did I know that he'd do it himself. This is the only time I recall being satisfied with a "Main Event Interview" in lieu of a match. Good RAW.

Great show tonight. The first hour was better than the second, but Foley's promo at the end really set things right. Remind me never to eat ice cream when Foley asks someone to spit on him because my gag reflex went full tilt. Yuck!

Speaking of yuck, it's cool that Stone Cold Steve Austin saw HBK and HHH's match last night and thought the same thing I did, when he felt it was like Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Because I said this:

Originally posted by Ticamo in the Royal Rumble thread

That made the show for me... Just kidding.

The only thing that bothered me about the first hour was a lot of talking and only two matches, but I'd be lying if I saod that I didn't mark out when Chris Benoit came out, so that nullifies my initial complaint, right? Hell, Bell's Palsy has be confused these days. (long story here)

Good show tonight.

Let's see - the most intense promo in years which helped me remember why I thought Foley was the best ever even moreso than the awesome new DVD including Foley *drawing blood on his own forehead*, a great opening match that more than made up for the lack of a "proper" main event, Jericho's face turn fully cemented alongside another logical and intelligent step in the suprisingly well-booked Trish storyline, Theodore Long getting to cut a promo, Goldberg throwing the Coach around and furthering the Brock feud,, the cool Undertaker promo officially recognizing that he's coming back as the *real* Undertaker this time, Molly Holly miraculously still Womens Champion (despite losing it on Heat, by all accounts) and suprise titties? I think it's pretty safe to call this the best damn RAW in a long time.

And I don't think they need to have Undertaker properly switch brands. They can just have him fuck with Kane until Wrestlemania and then, when that's over with, ride out his career on Smackdown. They do need to bring someone over to Smackdown, and I also hope it isn't Goldberg. Honestly, if they can keep Goldberg and Lesnar feuding between brands, it'll make the Wrestlemania match that much more interesting.

Furthermore, here's another happy thought - if Goldberg, say, decides to show up at the next Smackdown PPV and take his revenge on Brock Lesnar, he'd probably wind up costing him his match and title - especially because doing a title match between the brands making the whole thing much more needlessly complicated - and who was it again that Brock's rumoured to be fighting next month? Viva la raza!

Maybe there is just a new generation of wrestling fan now, but some of these comments are really shocking to me.

I am the type of wrestling fan who believes there is no such thing as a great match without a great story behind it. Matches like Rock vs Hogan, Foley vs Taker HITC, I consider great matches just because of the story behind it even though the internet smark wouldn't even have it in the top 50.

I mean, honestly the opening match was alright but can you tell me you wanted to see Jericho and RVD beat Evolution more than you wanted to see Foley kick Orton's ass?

Something they have been building up for 6 weeks should be reserved for last. Every week there is some random handicap match as the main event, and in 2 weeks no one will even remember the opening match, but I can pretty much promise you that the only thing I will ever remember a year from now from RAW was Foley's promo, so I would say it deserved to be last.

That's why I didn't complain when they did the episode where Mick Foley walked out looking like a punk. I KNEW Mick Foley had something planned to not only explain it, but make it great.

The Benoit/HHH/HBK thing seemed kind of awkward, but I've still got good hopes for that. I guess the threatened lawsuit will result in Goldberg going to SmackDown to replace Benoit.

The Undertaker thing is moving along well. When will he finally appear?

Did Lilian Garcia announce the winner of the Goldberg match as "Chuck Goldberg", "Jim Goldberg", or something else that wasn't Bill Goldberg? Maybe I just heard wrong since I wasn't paying very close attention to what was said.

I also heard "Chuck Goldberg", but it was more like she started saying something that sounded like "Chuck" until she aborted it and corrected herself, but the end result definetely sounded like "Chuck Goldberg" to me.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. It sounded like she started to say something else, stopped herself, and said "Goldberg". It definitely didn't sound like "Bill Goldberg".

Oh well, it's not very important. I was just curious if anyone else heard it that way.

Great show. I even dug JR tonight with his mostly coherent commentary. I don't need a whole night of great workrate-filled matches if we have angle progression like we had tonight. That, plus a promo that made most smarks forget about the cliffhanger from a month ago, and you have one fine show.

We even get a nip slip. Are you kidding me? Although I don't like being tricked into thinking that a Jackie/Stacy spread could be in PB (which I would love) when it's just going to be Torrie/Sable (now if it was Torrie/Stacy...yum).

Damn you WWE for making me change my sig. I'm sure you have good enough reasons to get rid of Shannon, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Let me thus be the first to say: BRING BACK DAFFNEY!

I checked the tape and she clearly said "Chuck Goldberg". Maybe she has Palumbo on the mind. So anyway, that solves that.

Plus, I wanted the add that I thought Taker's video clip reminded me a little like "The Ring". That was kinda cool.

Actually J.R. announced before the match it was non-title, if I'm not mistaken so did The Fink, and J.R. also mentioned it was non-title several times during the contest. Yes, they did stop short of blinking "non-title" on the screen throughout the match, but I'm pretty confident still that it was non-title.

You need to talk to this 'all accounts' fella, because he had it all wrong.

Great promo from Mick saved the show... odd to see Orton whiff after a great performance last night.

so the face turn for stevie and victoria is official.

well that and the 'oh, don't believe those rumors' people just got **** on their face...although with 2 months there's certainly lots of wiggle room.

Well, this Wiener is happy. Mick Foley has channeled his inner Cactus Jack, without even being Cactus Jack, Randy Orton has been scared out of his motherfucking mind, John Conway has been spanked, Kane was freaked out and looked like the world’s largest Smurf, and Paul Heyman has bitched out Eric Bischov.

I actually have hope for Benoit. He may get more heat than anyone intended.
