I will be running a Smackdown 4:SYM tournament at this gamecon next week (*blatant plug* Ubercon, 14-17 feb. Parsippany NJ) and I am thinking about the best format for this..
- There will be 4 PS2 available, each with 2 controllers. - Obviously 4 SYM games..
What would you suggest is the best way to do this? There can be 48 contestant tops, with a minimum of 8.. I guess the number will be somewhere around 15-20 The most obvious seems to be: - single matches knockout tournament, with normal rules (DQ, ring out, etc). You loose, you're out. - Later rounds could have special stips (leading up to HitC?)
- Everyone plays 3(5?) matches, the 4 or 8 with the best records advance and play 2/3 falls matches against one another leading up to 2/3 falls special stip matches for the finals. (this only works if there aren't that many entrants I guess)
How would you do this? We have about 2 hrs for the tournament..

Well shit, now I wish I was better at this game. I could get to Parsippany, but I would get demolished by most gamers I think.
Although, getting to do a Rolling Thunder on dMp's character does have a certain appeal to it.
About the tournament, I don't know if changing the types of matches each time is a good indicator of who is the best SYM player. For instance, I might be great at singles, but suck at cage matches. I would hate to lose a tournament to a guy just because they picked his specialty match. But the 2 out of 3 fall concept is a good one, especially after you have weeded out the suck players like yours truly.
Drop by anyways, it should be fun. Besides..there will be many other games, there must be something you are good at?
(oh, and before the tourney starts you can practice too!! work on that rolling thunder spot! watch me no-sell it..well in fact I am not that good at it either, haven't played it in weeks)
Ps - oh..any good at Raw Deal? Just noticed we/they will run that too..

The following post expresses the opinions of a raving Jerichoholic. He is biased, opinionated and bitter. You have been warned.
Dude, it's gonna snow.
Consider that the only reason I don't come down there and kick your butt twice. My Benoit Raw Deal deck vs. whatever you can come up with up and then the King of the World wiping out all comers in SYM. So, I say again.

If you had enough people, it'd be awesome if you could get yourself two multitaps, and then have each of 30 people pick a wrestler, and then run a legitimate Royal Rumble. You could even go so far as to let up to 6 of them pick when they enter. (prelim matches for spots 1,2, and 30...)

Is Raw Deal the card game?
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing..alas..no multi taps :/ Raw deal is the card game yeah, but I have no experience with that myself.
Gugs, snow rules, and I don't play Raw deal but I am sure others will be there to keep your Benoit deck down. As for SYM..my Angle versus your King of the World (if that is even your real name) oh yeah..I'll make you tap! It's true, It's damn true!
