RIP

Over 1500 posts and still never a Wiener of the Day!

Oliva: You are the weakest link! Goodbye!

Stewie: Ahahaha. Oh God, that's funny. That's really funny. You write your own material? Do you? Because that is so fresh. 'You are the weakest link. Goodbye!' You know I've never heard anyone make that joke before. You're the first. I've never heard anyone reference that outside program before. Because that's what she says on the show, right? Hmmm? 'You are the weakest link. Goodbye!' And ye...ye..yet you've taken it and....and used it out of context to insult me in this everyday situation. What a clever, smart girl you must be. To come up with a joke like that all by yourself. Mmmmm...that's so fresh too. Any Titanic jokes you want to throw at me as long as we're hitting these phenomena at the height of their popularity. Mmmm? Cuz i'm here God you're so funny!

Well, we all knew it had to happen sometime soon.

And it's Thurmond.

I remeber a couple years ago my AP US Govt. teacher telling us he believed that the only thing keeping Strom going was his government involvement, and once that stopped he thought Strom would quietly pass away. Looks like he was right.

I've got no desire to get involved in this, but it's always struck me as more than a little insincere to have to pretend that you thought every human being who ever lived was a great person when they died. That you have to ignore every bad thing they ever did. It makes anything good you say about people you legitimately respected and admired much less meaningful.

You know my feelings on Sen. Thurmond. I'll leave it at that.

It's always sad when someone leaves this earth, but at least we can console ourselves by knowing they're in a better place.

I'm sure sentiments like these have had a lot to do with them. Personally, I have to agree with OFB, but that's still no reason to be an ass in a situation like this. If you've got something nice to say, say it. If you don't, do like OFB, and say nothing.

Baseball's Sad Lexicon

These are the saddest of possible words:
"Tinker to Evers to Chance."
Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,
Tinker and Evers and Chance.
Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble,
Making a Giant hit into a double-
Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble:
"Tinker to Evers to Chance."

Wait a minute, wait a minute... You mean, I'm the voice of reason and restraint in this forum? Wow, that's never happened before.

Yes, OFB, you are, and we (well, I, at least) thank you for it.

(That and going through 6 deleted posts in a row would just be incredibly annoying. No, I don't have "see new posts only" enabled.)

As for Strom .... I think my feelings are probably similar to yours, OFB. I won't say anything more.

I'm gonna fall in with OFB and TheCow, here... I wasn't a big fan of the man's politics but he at least appeared to genuinely believe in what he was doing... whether you think it's right or wrong, you've got to respect it.

Here's hoping his family is coping with the loss well.
