I saw it on The Torch (pwtorch.com), but they got it from the Observer. 55-year-old Sting has finally signed with WWE, in a deal that is described as being "not just a Legends Contract, but for a TV role."

A few things struck me upon reading this:

-It has been 13 years since WCW was purchased by WWE.
-Of the wrestlers that were active in WCW when it folded, only Rey Mysterio is still (barely) an active wrestler in WWE.
-It has been 17 years since the (arguable) height of Sting's popularity in WCW. (Probably even longer than that.)

So yeah, this is happening waaaaay too late, but, in a way, I'm still glad it's happening. I don't expect much from it, but the novelty of seeing Sting in a WWE ring will still be kinda fun.

Everything is awesome.

I was thinking yesterday of current WWE wrestlers Sting has worked with in the ring. I figured Rey, Dustin, and Big Show were it.

Booker and Regal are still visible at times. So is Teddy Long, I suppose. Sting worked against Paul Heyman's Dangerous Alliance too.

I looked through the WWE.com superstar listings (wwe.com) to double check and noticed CM Punk is still there. But so is The Finisher from Slam City.

Sting was my guy growing up, as I watched a lot more NWA on TBS than I did WWF (at least until Raw began), so I'm still glad this is happening.

I've heard that they're going to make Raw Monday night a tribute show for Warrior, which leaves me to question, do they unveil Sting right away and use him as part of that tribute show, or wait and debut him later?

Sting/Taker is the obvious choice to happen, but even if it can/will not, the best of Sting collection they'll release on DVD and his induction into the HOF will be well worth the wait.

Sting/Cena could be an interesting offshoot of Cena's feud with Wyatt. If you think about it, Cena is very much like pre-Crow Sting. Sting could represent what Cena would become if he embraced his dark side. I dunno. Just spitballing.

Not sure if he counts as active anymore, but Sting did work one time against Mark Callous, the future Undertaker.

You're right.

I didn't include anyone he might have worked with in TNA: RVD, Xavier, Christian, etc. But I had to remember that he had a TNA run even though he was there for so long. I always consider him the WCW guy. Maybe THE WCW guy.

I wonder if they would even debut him right away, since I'd imagine his whole thing centers around a program for WrestleMania 31.

The Streak is no longer an issue, so I think a Sting-Undertaker match actually has some intrigue. I never bought Sting as a threat to the Streak, so now that it's no longer an thing, he has a chance at winning. I still doubt Taker loses two in a row, but it's a bit more of an even match.

Definitely happening too late, but I'll take it. WWE has so much momentum right now that this could help maintain that over the next year. I doubt he wrestles much, though.

I loved Sting, so maybe I just don't want him to be seen as a shell of what he was (I'll always love the Stinger Splash that I'm sure wasn't from as far across the ring as I remember it being).

That being said, I'm not sure what all the intrigue is anymore, other than 'last guy to join WWE'? You can only dance so many times with Flair, not that I didn't mark out like crazy for their last go 'round when WCW was bought.

Can you sell me on why I should be hyped for this?

Just for clarity, this is what it says in the Observer:

Sting has signed his deal with WWE. Not sure of the details regarding what role he will play but he is scheduled to be on television at some point, but not right away. It’s seemed to be inevitable this deal would happen ever since TNA didn’t renew his contract. The deal described to me as being close for a while, but now it’s signed. Sting’s assumption was he would work with Undertaker, which many expected. With Undertaker losing, and his future being in question, that would be up in the air

(...skipping section about how, a long time ago when he was on the outside, the Rock told Dave his three dream opponents for a return were Sting, Savage or Misterio...)

The Sting deal will include being on television, but whether that’s as a regular character (he is obviously not going to wrestle full-time) or just to build for one match at next year’s Mania, that isn’t clear.

If this doesn't end with one final Ric Flair turn on Sting, I'm going to be sorely disappointed.

Clearly Sting should tag with John Cena, one of them turns, making the other officially the most gullible face of all-time.

Did any of you people clamoring for a Sting v Undertaker match at next year's Wrestlemania actually see THIS year's Wrestlemania?

Undertaker is DONE. He's broken down, old, slow, out of shape and not physically able to have a decent match.

Don't get me wrong, I love UT. The gimmick, the move set, the whole nine yards, but he's finished.

Watching him reminded me of the old clip they always show of the Masked Assassin in his retirement match(that was the Masked Assassin, right? old guy, white mask with red trim). No muscle tone, barely mobile, out of breath. It's sad folks, but it's time to let the Undertaker ride off on his Harley while American Bad Ass plays.

"Being on television" =/= Wrestling any matches necessarily.

He could be coming in as a Legend, do some promos etc like Piper.

Though perhaps he can aid/interfere with the Shield - Vigilante Justice!

I agree that Taker is likely done, but the quality of the Brock match is a separate issue. He got a concussion about five minutes into the match. There's no way of knowing how he would have performed had that not happened.

And he was always kinda slow.

If Sting has joined WWE, I wonder if we'll see his debut on Monday. The preamble on Smackdown suggests that Raw will be a tribute show to the Ultimate Warrior. Who better than his first tag team partner?

I hope he comes out to "A Man Called Sting". And I hope they say, "This...is...Sting!" when they introduce him.

That's all I want.

This is all serious business.
