If "spoiler" is in the title, probably don't need to use spoiler tags too. It would be difficult to talk in this thread without spoiling the situation, leaving the entire thread filled with "highlight text to read."
I'm somewhat disappointed in this news, less so with the fact that it was always supposed to be a one-year arc (allegedly, anyway) the whole time. The California character wasn't able to sustain the momentum it had at the end of last season, which is what I was afraid of.

Damn. That's what I was going for.
I'm also disappointed. Not just by the news but by the Robert California character so far. It just didn't click like I'd hoped; his character isn't even really the same character that interviewed for the job.
I do find it interesting that Catherine Tate was rumored to be the one who got the job that ultimately went to Spader, and they've managed to find a way to bring Tate into the show anyway. And now Spader is set to exit.
@CMPunk
“@ZackRyder: @CMPunk She played me bro” I got your back.
Yeah, this whole season may end up being the holding pattern for "let's get Catherine Tate on the show." Damn that theatre production* that kept her from taking the job at the start of the year.
* = It was a version of Much Ado About Nothing with her and David Tennant as Beatrice and Benedick. That is admittedly awesome.
"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." --- Bart Giamatti, on baseball
Tate's first appearance was pretty terrible (and IIRC that was a pretty much universal opinion), Spader was obviously the best choice at the time.
But Tate's return has been good so far and RC has been good but not great, so I'm not totally against her "taking over"...although I hope she gets a Jan-type supervisor role instead of them having to come up with another reason for the Sabre CEO leaving.

If the character she's done on the show thus far is what she would be, count me way, way out.

Agreed. I would be on board for another seaosn of The Office, but if Tate is involved in any way, I am done. I do not find anything remotely funny or amusing about her character.

This is my biggest complaint with the show these days, every single character they introduce has to be strange or wacky. That's why I loved the Charles Minor storyline so much, he was a normal guy who was dropped into this craziness and reacted like any normal person would have.
Heinous. suprnova.org has your hookup. Eeeeeventually. Jeb: I'm abuzz with Arrested joy at the moment, but it's late and I need a day to process it all. Precious, precious continuity.
