how do you check off it just keeps all the columns checked
A lot of the stuff you can't check off because they're physical body settings (like "Face" and "Arms").
Any of the clothing ones though are easy. You just highlight it, push the button (I think the instructions are on the screen) and then click off whichever part of the entrance/backstage you don't want them to wear that.

Okay, in the layers section of the create mode, use the display setting choice and choose which layers you want to edit. And press TRIANGLE to exit out of it. It should work then. :)
