Matthew Belloni @THRMattBelloni Interesting tidbit among all the TV news today: NBCU is letting WWE SMACKDOWN go to open bidding. They're keeping RAW but the deal is so big (3x current value, I'm told) that they're not re-signing both. Big sports opportunity for another network.
I suppose RAW will always be the A-show in Vince's mind, but it'll be interesting to see what happens if Smackdown ends up on Fox Sports 1, as is the strong speculation.
George Michael weighed his options. Maeby had chastised him for not taking risks, and what would be a bigger risk than perpetuating a lie about software just to ignite the passions of a woman? Of course it would be a lie, and since Maeby wouldn't know it was a lie, he wouldn't appear to be taking a risk. Perhaps the bigger risk was to tell his father he was lying, that he came up with it because he wanted his father to leave so he could enjoy what remained of his senior year. After all, he wondered, wouldn't that be the course of action taken by an overtly sexual man, a man who owns a pair of matador pants? He had not responded now for 41 seconds according to his unfailing internal clock, and it was time to come clean.
Raw has the name value over the years and still would be the first show most people would name if you asked. Having a 3 hour show each and every week is not easy. Sometimes they get it right, sometimes an hour and a bit is good and that will please most people and sometimes it is just terrible with one good feature. There is a limit to how good you can have a 3 hour show each week and still want people to have the Network for up to date content rather than the archives. Not sure that duel brand PPVs will do that, but they do and they know more than me.
Back to the main point, I love watching Smackdown here in England as I can record it at 1am and watch the show before I go to work with the aid of the fast forward button. Can't do that with Raw even if I skip through what looks like crap.
How many people record a WWE show and watch it with the fast forward button getting a lot of use? Must be a lot regardless of country.

In addition to being the familiar name it's also the familiar night. Everybody who has watched wrestling knows Monday is wrestling night (and non-wrestling fans might even know it from flipping through the channels or having friends that are fans). But nobody knows when Smackdown is on unless they're paying close attention. Just this past Thursday I had a co-worker that doesn't watch wrestling anymore say to me "tonight is a wrestling night, right?" I had to explain to him that Smackdown is on Tuesday now, and was on Friday nights for a while.
It's completely horrible for a bunch of reasons: 1) When you think of Macho Man, you can't help but just see him in a neon spandex cowboy hat w/fringe outfit. I can't see somebody like that rapping. 2) His raps kind of suck. 3)
