You know what would be neat? The ability to block signatures from individual posters. I don't want to avoid all sig files, but some of you have really obnoxious sigs and I hate them and I hate you as a result. I want to be a happier person, and the best way I can think of accomplishing this is by making CRZ and Guru do a bunch of extra work to implement a feature that has likely been suggested and shot down already. Or maybe it exists already and I'm an idiot? Who knows.
That has to be one of the funniest posts I have read in quite some time, and it works on so many levels.
Offhand, if the sig is annoying, wouldn't the rest of the person's post probably annoy you as well? Then you could just select the "Ignore this user" option and all is well. Only downside is that you could still be bothered by the damn avatars.

Of course, if you don't mind not seeing people's avatars either, you could switch to dial-up mode. No sigs there.

To be fair, that isn't exactly what he's asking. Still, I can see how its similar enough.
I don't know what browser you use, but Firefox lets you block images from a given server. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that most of the annoying sigs involve large banner-type images, so you could just block those images and that should help alleviate your issues.

Injury prevention 4. Self-discipline 5. Sex (Trust me, you'll have a better shot with the ladies if you're in shape.)" -- Making the Game, pp. 14 - 15

The problem with this is FireFox can be way too broad about the range of images it'll block.
If I want to block the still-annoying team flags and someone's got them hosted on imageshack (because it's free), I've blacklisted the whole domain instead of just the single picture. The stuff I want to see is gone, but I won't be able to see a magazine cover someone's posted on the same site easily anymore. There shouldn't be a tradeoff.
The way they have it is not without it's uses - it takes care of rotating ad banners pretty effectively - but it's often like trying to pound a nail with a sledgehammer.

I don't like blocking individual posters because a conversation with the stupid bits cuts out is still annoying, just in a different way.
You're right in assuming that the people with the most awful signatures are usually also the people with the most awful posts.

Not entirely the same thing, but yeah, I knew a similar issue had been brought up (and down) recently.
