Wow, I guess no one here thinks this is a big deal, eh?
I dunno, I look forward to this deal from an entertainment standpoint (those postgame press conferences should be a hoot), but I don't necessarily feel it's the "final piece of the puzzle" for Boston either ... Meh, it sure beats Shelden Williams, though ;)

I think it would have been a bigger deal 10 years ago. I am going to enjoy him sitting on the bench looking more like Precious every time I see him. He and Jermaine are there to eat fouls and that's about it.

That's my philosophy on this. He's got 6 potentially hard fouls to give, he might be able to hold onto a rebound that falls into his hands, and he actually has shown the ability not to brick dunks. That makes him an improvement over Williams.
Best part of this story is the little war of words between Shaq and Jim Rome...apparently they've been bickering back and forth on Twitter after Shaq took offense to Rome calling it a bad move for Boston.
Oh, and for those people who say that the Celtics are too old to compete for a title anymore:

What I find interesting is that the Heat are nearly just as old as the Celts and actually have more 'older' guys. It makes me wonder where some people are getting the idea that Miami is going to win a ton of titles because they're young. Talented, yes; young, not so much.

You (and that graphic) seem to be ignoring the fact that the Celtics three best players are all in that "old" group while Miami's three best players are not. You're not really comparing apples to apples when you're talking about the age similarity between one team's superstars and another team's role players.
Don't spoil this argument with your facts ... I'm like Bill Simmons, I need to find a reason why Miami isn't going to dominate the NBA for the next decade

Well, I'd say 2 of their top 3 are 30 or older. I'd put Rondo in the top 3 Celtics players group. Other than that, the rest of your post is pretty spot on.

If nothing else it makes the Jermaine O'Neal signing look even dumber. They could have just gotten themselves another shifty swingman with the Jermaine money, there's no need for two washed up O'Neals. I think Shaq has slightly more game left, mostly due to his size.
Edit: I really wish Sheed wasn't retiring now, that would have been a great cast to watch on the floor.
