I don't see where all the "this card sucks, I'm not wasting my money" is coming from. In Benoit/Orton and Angle/Guerrero you've got two almost certain **** matches right away. Sure, JBL/Undertaker isn't exactly a workrate geek's wet dream, but the IC triple threat should be a solid match. If done seriously, HHH and Eugene could be quite good. The Smackdown six man has some very talented guys in it. Cena and Booker aren't exactly slouches either.
You can reasonably expect six above-average or better matches out of an eight man card. That ain't half bad. Assume JBL/UT isn't very good, Kane/Hardy is gonna be a tad lame, and the dodgeball is gonna be a waste of time and you've still got the makings of a pretty good card. And for what it's worth, all eight matches on the show have had build and a storyline purpose going into the event.
I'll be watching it at the ACC in Toronto, and am very much looking forward to it.

I think it's coming from people's entirely valid opinions. Seriously man, I think you need to tighten up your star rating system. When a movie gets 4 stars from critics, that usually means it's one of the year's best. It's so good the only thing that could make it better is if it was highly innovative, legendary, or trendsetting. Randy Orton has never been in a 4 star match in his life, and probably never will be. Benoit will carry him to something good, maybe even very good at times but it won't be 4 stars. Angle and Benoit may be that good, but Eddie's been hurt and it takes two to tango. Angle was fantastic on Smackdown, though.
Smackdown Six-Man should be awesome, awesome mid-card filler. Mid-card filler doesn't get money out of my pocket.
HHH/Eugene is a good match on paper and should be solid. Wouldn't sway me into spending cash, though. Seems like whoever wins, it leads to bad TV. Either He-Man crushes a retard, or the retard lucks out. And then, more of it on TV. Don't know, call me crazy but this feels like only stage 1 of another eleven-month Triple H feud. This one is better than most, but it doesn't do much for me.
As for the rest, it all stands as good a chance of being bad as it does being good. Triple Threat matches, unless immaculately booked like the Shawn/Hunter/Benoit ones, are usually, two guys fight while one guy is knocked down and rests on the floor for much longer than he ever would in a normal match, usually after taking a rather basic move. This is hardly a formula for greatness. Jericho is the best worker in the match, and they just gave away a 20 minute bout on free TV between him and the second best worker in the match. Batista, while decent, starts to look like a melting wax sculpture in any match longer than 10 minutes. This match, however, will probably be saved by rabid fan reaction for Jericho and Edge.
JBL/Taker is fine for a 10-minute TV match, but I'm not paying 35 bucks...fuck it, I live in Toronto, and I could have gone to this show. That would have been 50-200 bucks of my money, depending on where I wanted to sit, but this card is keeping me at home. I don't want to spend that kind of cash on "okay".
Kane/Hardy is, again, not a PPV quality match. Fine for RAW, but not when we have to pay. Dodgeball is RAW fodder as well, though I will admit to liking the DivaSearch a lot more than most. Booker/Cena should be again, good, but not great.
I can't see how anyone could argue this isn't a lackluster card. I think you're just being a little more forgiving because you're going, and sure don't want it to suck.
I've gotten every Summerslam since '92, but I think I'll pass.

I remember when one of my friends swore to me for WEEKS tha Brock Lesnar was Sid Vicious. I kept trying to explain to him that this is a new guy named Brock Lesnar. But he kept insisting: "No, no... Sid VICIOUS!"
Okay, so I don't have the brightest of friends.
I will second that. I still have friends that will swear to God, that there have been 2 or 3 Warriors and about 2 different guys as Kane.
"Randy Orton has never been in a 4 star match in his life, and probably never will be."
Subjective subjectivity and all, but I would rate ...
Foley/Orton (Backlash) ****1/4 Benoit-Edge/Orton-Batista (Raw in May) ****
... as the two four star matches of his career, so far. I would probably almost guarantee one on Sunday too. But seeing as how the garbagology of the first match might not be your cup of tea and the second one is a tag with three other people, it's valid to say he's never been in a four star match. Still, suggesting that he's never going to have a **** match in his life, at the age of 24, when he's only going to improve and when he'll be working in PPV main events that are laid out to be extra-dramatic and extra-memorable, seems like a really bad bet to take.
Let's see... Snowflakes for recent matches from SKeith, wrestler details from TheCubsFan.com:

CALGARY FLAMES: Your 2004 Western Conference Champions DVDs I Own
It makes for an interesting read, and it's impressive that you went through that trouble. However, it takes more than one wrestler to determine the quality of a match, and many times there's factors other than the competitors that account for its quality (Rock/Hogan is a prime example). I don't mean to come off as snide or completely write off what you presented, but I don't see how it means anything to most of the individual performers.
I didn't wanna start a new thread for this, so I'll stick it here ...
I find those WWE polls so amusing sometimes ... To show you how rigged they are, in the current one that asks "what Summerslam match are most looking forward to?", the top two vote-getters with over a combined 40% of the votes are JBL vs. Undertaker & Diva Dodgeball.
You're a jive soul bro, a jive soul bro And you're always lyin' to you friends You're a jive soul bro, a jive soul bro And you'll never get nothin' in the end
I don't get people not believing in Randy Orton, at least it's a fresh main event with a fresh main eventer, make your criticism after the match and not before.

Nice. I know someone who overheard:
"Adam Bomb? Who's that?" "He used to be Bam Bam Bigelow." "Oh yeah."
The "value" of the webcast isn't bad, but it drives me nuts that I can't tape it as it happens. I have a need to own the original broadcast in case of a flub (like Okerlund yelling "fuck it!" at Summerslam many years ago) or an unexpected live crowd reaction that they ANNOYINGLY decide to alter for the DVD version (Goldberg-Lesnar).

I don't get people believing in Randy Orton..and I'm judging him based on what I've already seen of him. I'd rather have a stale, rerun match-up with two CREDIBLE guys(that's right, something with HHH even) going at it than the possibility of Randy Orton winning the World title. Batista is more deserving of this match and title in comparison, and I hate Batista. Randy's done nothing to prove that he deserves this opportunity. People always laud that he's "improved", but should that really be something to celebrate? I'd HOPE that someone would improve after 2 years of being shoved down the fans' throats...merely doing what's required of your job isn't exactly what's I'd consider reward worthy..at least of that kind of reward. Where's Cena's world(WWE) title shot then?
And it doesn't hurt that I can already predict the damn match. They'll put Randy in the match carrying position just to piss me off, i.e. dragged out "methodical" beatdown(UPPERCUTS and CHINLOCKS!) until Benoit comes back with his GERMANS and HEADBUTT and a million failed Crossface attempts that super Randy breaks out of to make the pin with his lame-assed "out of nowhere!" RKO to the turning sound of my stomach. Sadly, some WILL view this as a ****-***** star effort due to the apparent chinlock infatuation(because he growls and looks like he's having a seizure when he applies them!!)and the belief that Benoit's repetitive routine is the equivalent of his pre-2002 stuff.(And down goes my rating!) Look, I'm not denying that Benoit is still capable of having plenty ****+ matches. But not with Randy Orton, and not with Randy Orton in 2004. Not in my view.

I can see thatbeing true. People are obsessed with the new taker and it's the first time he been in a titl mathc since he came back. And a lot of people are voting for Diva Dodgeball as a joke or they're really into Dodgeball after seeing the movie.
Already paid for and VCR prepped. Sure it may not be the greatest spectacle that ever conceived by the deities of sports entertainment, but I look forward to seeing Benoit bust out some old-school WCW style ass-kicking since Randy does look competent taking a whooping. JBL/Undertaker will be a slobberknocker, but how many of Stone Cold's matches deviated from punch/kick/get beat a little bit/make super-metahuman come back/wham-bam-BY GOD STUNNER!!!? I love six man tags, and couldn't have asked for better participants. I look forward to Batista's IC title win(You can almost expect Edge and Jericho to be too busy with one another then both fall victim to the clothesline of instant concussion) Eugene should be given liscense to basically emulate Benoit circa 2000 and HHH has been looking great all year. Diva Dodge Ball? Maybe Jazz will get over-excited and bean one of those vapid bitches in the face and knock her unconscious. So I'm content.
Hell I've paid for worse (WM XV comes to mind) and at least Angle/Eddie should be beautiful. Hell if Angle perfomed as well as he did the last two Mania's with neck problems, I'm pretty certain Eddie's up to the task with a bum knee.
As long as there is a single ember on the grill that is justice, we can still cook a mighty steak of victory.
The WWE does stupid things. We all know this is a true statement. Orton w/ the World Title could be one of them. We must wait it out and see whether Orton is capable.
My personal opinion on it:
HE IS NOT WORTHY!
I'd like to share a...revelation I had, during my time here. It came to me when I tried to...classify your species. I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but...you humans do not. You move to an area...and you multiply...until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to... spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is?
A virus. Humans beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet...and we...are the cure.
I buy whatever Vince tell's me to buy. I'm going to a sport's bar to see it because my satellite bill is past due. But I haven't missed a ppv since October 1996.
