You know, sometimes life isn't fair. My girlfriend's birthday is before mine, which means she can tremendously upstage me when it comes to birthday gifts, and she did so this year by obtaining tickets for Sens vs Leafs at the Corel Centre on Thanksgiving Monday (even though she isn't a big hockey fan).

Hey, it may not be fair athat she'll always one up me by giving ME better gifts, but I ain't complaining =)

Without cable, this'll be one of the few times I can watch hockey without it being Saturday or the rinky-dink highlights on local TV channels. And you can't beat NHL LIVE! Sens/Leafs is always entertaining (not as much as Habs/Leafs, but few things are). And if any team beats the Leafs, it may as well be the locals.

Of course, I'll be wearing my Habs jersey to the game because SOMEONE needs to demonstrate who the REAL hockey team is, but that's a different matter entirly.

You're wearing a Habs jersey to a Leafs/Sens game? (scratches head)

As far as the new season goes, this city is treating it like the Stanley Cup Finals from 2004 is continuing tonight. There's parties, and bars on the Red Mile are probably going to have lineups before the work day is done.

The over-hype scares me a bit, I don't think any team can live up to the expectations and attention the Flames are getting locally.

They're getting plenty of attention nationally, as well, if you consider Canada and US "national", I guess. Plenty of the ESPN guys are picking the Flames to win the Cup, and I'm pretty sure the SI.com guy picked a Sens-Flames finals.

I hope for your guys' sake that Kipprusoff doesn't mirror Jiggy's post-Finals run.

Of course the Senators should win. They've got a perfect record against the Leafs in games that mean absolutely nothing.

I need to rethink that "10" rating I gave you...

Well, she talked me out of wearing the jersey, but I still was able to wear the Habs hat.

EXCELLENT back and forth game. A few notes (if anyone cares);

- Both goalies were very shakey during the game. VERY shakey.
- My money is on Ottawa in ANY shootout with ANY team that doesn't have a goalie named Brodeur. Too many great goal-scorers, and Hasek is still the best goalie in the world on breakaways/shootouts whose name is not Brodeur.
- Jason Spezza IS the real deal. No questions asked. Period. Everytime #19 hit the ice, I couldn't help but watch. The guy has all the tools, does it all well. And it don't matter who they play with, him and Heatley are going to be KILLER this year.

Also of note; Ottawa and Montreal, both 3-0 so far.

Also of NOTE: Tied 1-1 at the end of one period.

Also of also note: You can't appreciate the speed of Martin Havlat until you've seen him live.

Also also of alsoness: Sens won 4-2. Was hoping for somemore last minute heroics, but alas, not to be. The Sens are looking GREAT this year. A special team to be sure, and probably the odds on favorite to win the President's Cup. Also, objectivly speaking, it looks as though The Habs will make some noise....and if the clutch goals in last minute situations keep on coming....no one will want to face them in the playoffs.

Keep an eye on Martin Havlat this season...it seems he's making something happen every time he's on the ice.

I heard that the Bruins are talking to Teamu Selanne. I think this could be the pick up that brings the cup back to Boston.
