Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander is having a physical Tuesday that could lead to his release.
The team is withholding any announcement until it receives the results of the physical.
Alexander has been healing from wrist surgery, but he could visit other teams until the wrist has healed. In free agency, Seattle signed Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett to replace him. Before a release, a player normally has an exit physical. Once he passes that physical, the team can terminate his contract.
He might be a shell of his former self, but there are still a lot of teams that could use his services. He won't have any problem finding work.
EDIT: The link is updated and it's become official.

I don't doubt that some team will grab him, but I'm not convinced that he actually would be useful to any team. He seemed like such a significant downgrade from his past glory that the average running back would be an improvement over him.

This seems complete ass-backwards. They want to release him because he's no longer healthy, but they can't release him if he's not healthy?

Probably has to do with whatever injury buyout or settlement language that's in the contract, so it's not so much that the guy is healthy, as it is the guy hasn't suffered a debilitating condition that the team is responsabile to pay for. I know there is language in contracts for players in other leagues that say they can't be cut/reassigned to the minor leagues/traded while on the disabled list or injured reserve.
Didn't this come up just a few months ago where a player admitted in a book or interview that he faked an injury so he couldn't be cut? I think it was a football player, but I remember hearing about it on Mike and Mike.

I thought Golic was telling that story about himself.

Of course you could also read this as him faking a dumb ass yarn to avoid his book deal being cut.
If Alexander's willing to take a pay cut and not be the featured back, I can see him doing a job for most teams.
Of the top of my head, Chicago, Houston? Benson didn't exactly cover himself in glory last year, and I'd never feel to happy about Ron Dayne featuring heavily in my offense if I could avoid it.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him end up here in Tennessee ... for these reasons
1.) Current Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt came from the Seahawks organization. 2.) Alexander could serve as the veteran RB needed for young Titans RBs LenDale White & Chris Henry. 3.) Alexander is from Kentucky and played his college ball at the University of Alabama.

Golic's story was that once he told the team he was healthy and felt good, they cut him. That's why he supported Bettis lying about an injury to avoid getting cut.
Alexander is all done. I think he could physically still go, but menatally he just doesn't want to take the hits anymore whether he wants to admit it or not. He'll make a team, but the run into the line, turn your back, make a weak push and sit down isn't a great play to move an offense.
That was the most frustrating thing last season. Watching him run to the line, hit the line and then lay down. It was tough to watch him after the foot injury in 2006 and then the hand last year. I hope someone does pick him up, I am sure he will still be good for 800 yards and 6 TD's but he will never be the 1800 yard, 25 TD runner he was. Here's to hoping Jonathan Stewart drops to 25 for the draft.

Just a bad move on Oakland's part. They finally have a coach who can seemingly corral the insanity of their organization, and they let him walk for nothing. Davis just really loves Hue Jackson.
