This is definitely my favorite one since the original, despite the fact there's not really much of a twist ending.

No, Hoffman NOT dying is not a twist.
My favorite part is how everything seems to be connecting quite nicely, but you may want to rewatch part 3 before watching this one since I hadn't remembered some details that are important in this one.
Yeah, lots of reviews are saying this is the best one in a while. I don't know, I'm hoping they wrap it up soon- all this backtracking and "previously, on Saw..." is getting confusing. And with the lack of a splash made at the box office, perhaps it will come to a close soon. And you're right, the ending wasn't as huge of a twist that we've seen before.
I also thought this Saw was a return to form after really bad ones in four and five. The twists didn't do it for me either, rather it was the acting and the healthcare related story.

(Editor's note: I haven't seen any of the Saw films.)
Yeah, what the hell was with the subplot? If anything, Saw, as a franchise, really really REALLY doesn't need to be topical. It couldn't add much to the film, I'm sure.
New for fall 2009: Moments In Random Quote Shame. From this post in 2004:
Well, why are we giving up THAT much for him? Rivers, this year's 3, and next year's 1 and 5? In the words of Anna Nicole Smith (according to Kathy Griffin), I don'like it. I would have rather seen us keep that pick and use it... on someone else (no, I don't know... maybe trade down) and try to get Losman late in 1 or early 2 (which wouldn't happen, thanks to the Bills).
The entire point of the series is the dude had cancer and didn't think people appreciated life.. this is just an extension of that because he was targeting people who wouldn't let him get a treatment that may have saved his life.

Exactly, and I think this is something they needed to do. Why not tackle something topical for once? It's a departure to be sure, but I think they needed a shakeup of some sort after blandness in Saw 4 and 5.
