Wow. Who would have thought that a guy who retired last season would come back and win the Cy Young. As a Yankee fan, I hate what he did, but as a baseball fan, you have to respect his work ethic and determination.
I'm sure this also comes as a bittersweet victory. Roger may have won the Cy Young, but he couldn't get it done in Game 7, and that's ultimately what counts.

I would be interested to hear why Roger Clemens deserved the award. He wasn't the best pitcher in the National League. It's not that he didn't have a real good year, but I don't see how he deserved it, unless you're a what goes around comes around thinker and feel this is there in the place of the one he should've won in 1990 (though he already got one of those, as has been pointed out to me). Johnson beat him in everything but his meaningless W-L record, and for that matter, so did Ben Sheets, and easily there too.
Clemens had roughly the same season Carlos Zambrano or Jason Schmidt had, and no one was clamoring for either of them to win it, though Schmidt did ridiculously take the MLBPA NL pitcher's award. Since Johnson went 16-14, I think the voters looked at this and said, "Well, hmm, Roger." 18-4 is pretty, and like I said, he had a hell of a good year, and I don't care what he did or didn't do in the playoffs because it's not relevant to the award, but did he deserve the award for best pitcher in the National League? No, because he wasn't.
Clemens was picked because he is a good story. Most baseball people had already given him the Cy Young before the All Star game which was a joke. Heck Roy Oswalt has almost the same stats as Clemens and two more wins and don't forget he was a much better pitcher then Clemens the second half of the year. But when you look at the stats you have to give it to Johnson. Going 16-14 on the Diamondbacks is an amazing job and I'm sure if he had the run support that Clemens had with Houston he would have won over 20 games. I'm sick to death with him and I couldn't care less if he comes back this year.

Yes, that was, of course, the other Roger Clemens who started Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS.
