I met Mr. Berenstain many years ago at a children's library fundraiser, and he inked a drawing of Papa and younger (now Brother) Bear for my son and I, and put our names under them, with his note "Best wishes, Stan."
While waiting in the short line, I had tried to figure out what to say to him, and all I could come up with was "Thank You. You have made so many families very happy! Thank You!"
I don't know how many of these fundraisers he ever did, or how many of his books he donated to RIF, but he really seemed to enjoy this quick sketch. I'll always remember the smile on his face as he drew the smiles on the bears.
I'll have to ask my son if he even remembers this. I certainly can't forget.
