Sad under any circumstance, but what makes it worse is a 5-year-old will grow up without his dad.
I was at the Pocono race Sunday and actually thought for a few minutes about how this guy went from an elite team to start-and-park in a just a few years.
Terrible news. I liked watching Leffler in the Nationwide series back in the mid 2000's and always wonder why he didn't quite seem to get better rides. I know he had a Gibbs ride for a season in Sprint cup but I felt if someone had committed to him more, he could at least challenge for a Truck or Nationwide title more than he was allowed to. RIP
Somewhat strangely, my last memory of Jason Leffler was the next-to-most-recent race I'd attended at Williams Grove speedway, where Leffler was running Tom Buch's #13 410 Sprint Car. He'd hooked up with a PA 410 team to race as much as possible while he hadn't been getting many opportunities in NASCAR.
That night, his car was involved in an incident with two other cars (the #747 of Davey Sammons and the #20 of Ryan Taylor), and he and his pit crew got ejected from the track for starting trouble in the pits...
Just seems like the worst last memory to have of a guy...
