Good for Charlie. He gets his high-profile coaching job, and we don't have to play against him for six years.
"He is the most overrated piece of crap in the league. He bitched and whined after he got his ass beaten in New England last year, so the NFL changed the rules. Then he got his ass beaten in New England again. Every year he's the top MVP candidate. Every year he's supposed to be the best. Every year he's going to carry the Colts to the Super Bowl. And every single year he goes to New England and gets his ass beaten. And his brother's a whiny little bitch." -A friend of mine, on Peyton Manning

At least the offense won't be boring/predictable. What Weis needs is to bring in a very strong defensive coordinator and to continue to be aggressive offensively. Whether he goes over well gladhanding the alumni will be a big question, but, if he wins, that's all that matters.
How is it all going to work? He's gotta prep New England while recruiting players for ND? As was pointed out on some TV shows today, National Letter of Intent Day is February 2. Let's say the Patriots go to the Super Bowl. How is Weis going to lock up players? He better get a good staff in place quickly, and he better hope they can put the time in to the recruits, because getting them to even consider ND at this point is very very difficult. If he doesn't get the players that he wants his first year, that sets back the program for at least a year, and Notre Dame wants to win right away.
It seems like a bit of a strange fit for both parties. I'm happy to see Charlie get a coaching gig, but sad to see the New England coaching trio finally break up.
I was sorta hoping to see him go to Miami to revive the Miami/NE rivarly or Seattle where I think his stlye of offense could really work with some of those players.
I think this is an okay pick for Notre Dame. Charlie Weis got a lot from his offense without the Pats having the best individuals in the league(well before they got Dillon)... The days of Notre Dame having the best of the best of college talent are not going to be any day soon, his offensive system has shown he can get most of the talent he's got.
Saying that, I never thought Notre Dame biggest concern is their offense. Their offense was okay, their defense especially against the pass was their achilles' heel.

Its a good choice considering. I think the offense does need some help, but it will be better with Quinn and Walker coming back. They just need a break away reciever which I think killed them in the later games. They didn't have a deep passer in the last few minutes of a game to solidify the win or at least keep the driving going.
ND against the pass was their achille's heel, but I don't where you would go to find a good CB in the college system. Their current batch is just too small and unskilled, they almost have to be a fairly decent freshmen out there. I don't know if I would do that against Michigan, Pitt or USC next year.
I think he will have a good year. His first two games are away against Pitt and Michigan if he goes 1-1 there, he should be able to go 7-2 the rest of the way. I do think the Pitt came is later in the year, but ESPN has been reporting it will the first game, so we will see. If it is later, it would beneift ND more to just to have one away game to start the season instead of two. They have Tennesse and USC at home if he wins those two games, they might be able to contend or get into a BSC Bowl. The good part is no BC, so we will see. Its a shame, because I do think Ty would have at least made a run for it, but with the new guy and most of the 5th year seniors leaving in protest, an 8-3 is a good run when they should be in the title hunt. Yeth, Yet should have gone 8-3 this year, but he blew it, so we will see since Washington vs. ND will be a huge game.

Pitt is the season opener on Labor Day weekend. They moved it up in order to have a game prior to the Michigan game. 7-2 start? They open on the road against Pitt and Michigan, both returning QB's on BCS teams, play Michigan State at home (who they play better against on the road), then go west for Washington and at Purdue. Throw in Tennessee should at least have 1 of their top 2 QB's available for a full game and that USC has beaten the Irish by 31 three straight, a winning record in the first season would be an accomplishment. The goal is to survive a tough start, try to build momentum late in the season, get a bowl bid and point to 2006 as The Year (and when I say The Year, I don't mean 9-2 BCS Bowl, I mean chance at a national title), as they would have a senior QB (unless Weis dumps Quinn) and a junior RB, while allowing a defense to develop. Look at the 2006 schedule, compare it to the 2005 schedule, and see why it made perfect sense to dump Willingham a year early, so they can get the bugs out of the system in the hell schedule of 2005 and, if things go right, have the schedule break for them in 2006.
2005 Schedule
at Pitt at Michigan h Michigan State at Washington at Purdue BYE h USC h BYU BYE h Tennessee h Navy h Syracuse at Stanford
2006 Schedule
at Georgia Tech h Penn State h Michigan at Michigan State h Purdue h Stanford BYE h UCLA at Navy: site to be determined h North Carolina at Air Force BYE at USC
I see your point, I thought they had another home game in between another two game road trip. I wouldn't say they could contend in 2006, because there is USC at the end to screw it all up. I do agree 2006, seems to be a good year to contend. The problem with ND though is that they can't win at home lately, Pitt, Purdue, BC were all at home and they got blown out last year at home by USC and a number of other teams.
I still say 2005 could be a 8-3 year, I wasn't scared of Washington till this week. Purdue is in a downward spiral since the Orton debacle. Pitt and Michigan worry me more than any other team, because if they start 0-2, I don't think they will recover in time to face a good Michigan State team and then do another round of road games. If they go 3-2 headed without an 0-2 start into the USC game at home with a bye, I think they can beat USC and finish out 4-1 even if they lose to Tennesse, they should be headed to a decent bowl game like Gator or Peach. Now, if they miraclously got 4-1 headed into the USC game, then I think they can contend for the title as long as there isn't another year where we have six undefeated teams. Weis does have his hands full, but I do think the alumini will let him go with a 7-4 season, now if he goes 7-4 next year then well, we will see.
Here is the problem I have with Ty being fired, he didn't win games they could have easily been won. Since this thing happened people like know it all Jim, I can't have guests in the studio, because they will kick me ass, Rome said how can fire a guy who beat Michigan and Tenesse. I say, easily, because he lost to BYU, BC and Pitt in games that they should have either blown them out or at least won by a touchdown. Ty couldn't get them up for the little games and in college football if you can't win the little games then you might as well give up, because thats 2/3 of your schedule while you may have only thee big games in a year. I know people are critizing, because Ty did an excellent job of graduating these kids, but you are the head coach not the history teacher.
