NBC10's John Clark reported tonight that the Sixers have traded for Chris Webber. No details are available at this time. If this is true this is awesome and puts us in the fight for the east.
Edit: Update: Just now on 610wip the trade was reported as Kenny Thomas, Corliss Williamson and Brian Skinner for Chris Webber, Michael Bradley and Matt Barnes. We just stole him.
Coming from a Pistons watcher (not fan, just watcher) however, don't underestimate the impact Corliss can have on a team's depth.

I LOVE Corliss....but I loved Webb. I also really liked Barnes. I know nothing about Skinner and Thomas.
I admit I'm not really paying much attention beyond watching games when they're on but I did not see this coming. I gotta get back to checking the Sacramento Bee website a couple times a week.
I have to wonder if this means a big BIG deal is coming for the Kings next season (or before today's over!)
At least if Webber hurts his knee again, I can just say "ha ha he pulled a Vlade" but more of me hope the Sixers make the finals now (and lose to the Kings - ha HA)

The Kings parted ways with the player who sparked the turnaround of their franchise on Wednesday, trading forward Chris Webber to the Philadelphia 76ers in a six-player deal.
In exchange for Webber, forward Matt Barnes, and forward Michael Bradley, the Kings received power forward Kenny Thomas, forward/center Brian Skinner, and well-known former King Corliss Williamson.
The deal was done in the virtual 11th hour, just one day before the NBA trading deadline. Webber's departure brings an end to his Sacramento stay after six-plus seasons, with the 76ers taking on the remainder of Webber's seven-year deal worth $122.703 million he signed in 2001.
The Kings didn't land a player with the star power of Webber, but they did add plenty of depth to a frontcourt that's been giving up points in the paint at an alarming rate all season. Thomas (11.3 points, 6.6 rebounds) may have the most long-term potential. He is only 27, with six-plus season to his credit. Last season, he posted career highs in points (13.6) and rebounds (10.1) with the 76ers.
Skinner was a reserve for Philadelphia, logging just 10 minutes per game before going on the injured list with a knee injury in January. He was activated on Feb. 14. Williamson was still his productive self in averaging 22 minutes this season, scoring 10.8 points and grabbing 3.7 rebounds per game.
Webber was in the midst of his finest season since having left knee surgery in June 2003, averaging 21.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists.
Webber missed 50 of the Kings' regular-season games last season due to an injury suffered in Game 2 of the 2003 Western Conference Semifinals at Dallas, ending his season. He underwent left knee surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus and to smooth and repair an articular cartilage defect for healing during this past off-season.
He came to Sacramento from the Washington Wizards in May 1998, the Kings giving up their own beloved guard Mitch Richmond for a 25-year-old player with a then-contentious history.
There were no guarantees, given Webber's past. The year prior to his arrival had been as tumultuous as any, including an arrest on suspicion of marijuana possession, second-degree assault and several traffic-related charges.
And shortly after the trade, he made his opinion of Sacramento known, stating that he was unhappy to be headed to the lesser known of the Northern California cities.
In July 2001, Webber's seven-year deal was the second-highest contract in NBA history behind Kevin Garnett's $126 million with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

About time Allen Iverson got some help. Maybe now he won't feel the need to score 30.7 points a game by going, y'know, 15-of-41 on any given night.
When I saw the trade announcement, my reaction was, "HOLY SHIT!" This helps the Sixers get another star player, and adds depth to the Kings, but... I'm not entirely convinced I would have made this trade if I were Sacramento. We'll see what it does to the Kings' prospects.

I'm not sure why the Kings would now trade Peja, I'm sure part of the reason they traded Webber was because Peja and Webber weren't getting along, which I hope is the only thing that was bothering Peja this season, because he sure hasn't been himself. I don't like the Webber trade at all for the Kings, I guess they got more depth now, and they do still have Bibby/Peja/Mobley/Miller but still, I think the Webber deal makes them a level worse and they had already dropped to fifth in the West, I can easily see Houston catching up, maybe Memphis too.
For the 76ers I love the deal, you get a star to put with Iverson just a few weaks after Iverson said he was unhappy about the direction of the team and the lack of help. Iverson should be happy about this, and C-Webb has said he's happy about the deal too, which should light a fire under both for the remaining season. Also they didn't give up the young players they like, Dalembert, Green, and Korver and there's still a possibility of a second trade to bring Mashburn or Spreewell. They Should win the Atlantic easily now which would get them the 3 seed, which is probably would I would rate, them now, not as good as MIami and Detroit, but they're a factor.
The only problem with the deal is that Iverson is on my fantasy team and his scoring is probably going to go down some now.

The 76ers are on the verge of their second big trade in less than 24 hours.
League sources tell ESPN.com that the Sixers will send the expiring contract of Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson to the Hornets for another inactive former All-Star Jamal Mashburn and Rodney Rogers.

Here is my number one reason for liking this C-Webb deal for the Sixers:
I've only really been to two Sixer games, and neither time involved me paying to see the game. After hearing about the C-Webb trade, I'm almost intrigued enough to go to the arena and pay decent money to see Philly play.
This is due to the charisma of Webber (who I have loved since Michigan) and due to the optimism of this team winning the East (especially if Shaq doesn't get back to 100 percent in Miami). I'm sure to be proved wrong in said optimism, but it's fun to dream.
