Version Update: up to 3.40 on the PS3. There's an improved Facebook app, a gallery that intergrates with Facebook and Picasa, and some video editing software, but the biggest change is the addition of the Playstation Plus service.
On the Europe PS Blog, they've very specific on what you get with Playstation Plus: - 1 PSN game - 2 minis - 1 PS1 classic - premium avatars and dynamic themes (some exclusive) - discounts available on loads of PlayStation Store content - some selected demos and beta trials
The US version doesn't put a number on games, so maybe this doens't apply to them. I have my doubts about how well Sony will support this. There's no way even they can be sure what they'll be specifically offering eight months from now, but you're required ot pay as if they'll still be as good there. Having a solid road map would help. It's also not as much of a deal when they're hyping up the value of items (avatars and themes!) which not many were actually buying.
On the other hand, it's not a lot per month. 4 games a month for $4 is cheaper than GameFly (and GameFly doesn't quite always give me the game I want when I want it either.) The total price is about the same as one game per year for what looks to be 48 (smaller) games than year; even if 25-30 of them are not what you'd want to play, the math is still in your favor.
Leaning towards signing up myself, but wouldn't recommend for others.
If you sign up by Tuesday...
US: three extra months EU: free copy of Little Big Planet <- much better deal

I tried this with the default songs, and meh. Then I tried it with my own songs and, much like Excite Truck, the game improved tenfold. Loud rock? Fast rap? A piano ballad for fun? You can drop in anything you want.
