Originally posted by Pool-BoyIt would seem, however, that my point of view isn't welcome here, so I won't waste time debating it. How you expect to even have a politics forum by censoring other people's opinions is beyond me. Is it any wonder this part of the site is such a vacuum lately? Maybe you should just close it - it is clear you want to. Better to close it than to bother with the farce. Since you don't even WANT the forum, and you censor everything right of John McCain, why bother?
Now, if you read in this forum where Chris bashes me for an earlier politics post -- at the time, I was pissed; I wished he had PM'ed me about the responses to "troll" postings of another user before he mocked me, but if that's Chris' way, that's Chris' way. It's his board. And I was replying in a leftist tone, so I was "censored," too.
I still like the forum because it is a current events forum as well. I think, however, that I try to be more selective in my posts/replies in there, that's all.
The only thing I see in CE is that it seems that leftist trolling is much more accepted than rightist trolling.
Hey, I'm the first to agree that the whole bulletin board issue is a non-issue and I think the way in which the subject was entered was wrong. But the subject of illegal immigration is important and all the trolls that say, essentially, that Pool-Boy's a racist for even bringing it up are allowed.
Talk about "half-assed, stupid" posts - it's the main reason I haven't posted there. We have people who are not from our country posting their opinions - all fine, but relatively irrelevent.
The most interesting thing I have seen in many weeks on the board was some post about Canadian politics. My quick read was that it was somewhat controversial. And not one american posted in it. But post about american politics and the folks from the other countries often dominate the posts. And often in what I see as a trolling attitude (ie: Gosh, here's my reply to your very stupid post, you stupid person, but I'll couch it in political terms.)
It's why I don't post much in the political forum much anymore. And, my impression is that is just fine with the moderators.
(edited by AWArulz on 27.4.05 0724) Now, just wait a minute!
I actually enjoy some of the topics that are brought up there (billboard notwithstanding) since it's not local news to me (and I don't watch much news in general) and I still will post there every so often. I do get concerned that (a) people can never agree to disagree or accept someone's perspective as valid (see: any thread on AA, racism or the billboard thread--Zed did LIVE there), (b) some of the nature of the posts/topics are no less inflammatory, hyperbolic and sensationalized as some news and talk-radio stations, and (c) the constant themes of zenophobia and lost entitlement are somewhat annoying (and old).

Change American politics to Catholic doctrine (and other countries to other religious beliefs), and the same is true. The fact is that what goes on in the U.S. and in Catholicism impacts the lives of just about everyone, even if they're not American or Catholic. Canadian politics, while obviously vitally important to Canadians, will not have a large impact on the lives of the rest of the world. So, Canadians post. And, I read, found it interesting and learned a little about Canadian politics.
Still, as a Catholic, I'd rather have the topic come up and have the opportunity to provide the correct information, even if the topic is brought up in a trolling type manner. Regardless of whether non-Catholics ignore or discredit the response, at least people get exposed to the right information.
Lastly, as far as censoring goes, if people on the right and left are both complaining about censoring 'their side' then I'd argue the admins are doing a spectacular job. Kudos.

Well, his original post didn't reference illegal immigration at all. When explained that was what he MEANT it made more sense, but he should've put that in his original post somewhere, I thought. I read his post and thought "WTF?", but when CRZ's picked a fight with you there's no need to pile on.
I pretty much try to stay out of there on "hot button"-topics as well, because often it just ends up becoming the same ol' left/right argument anyway.
I also don't think I've ever seen a post deleted here for content, just flames and trolls, mostly.

While it's true that people who post zero times will generally receive zero complaints, it's reckless to try to make any logical leap from there.
I say this all the time, but if there are any questions as to why something got deleted - or NOT deleted - Aaron and I are very easy to find. I can't think of a single time either of us didn't provide a candid, honest response to a PM about how we acted on a particular post...whether the answer was one the questioner agreed with or not. Believe me, if I'm lying HERE there'll be lost of people ready to post their examples to the contrary - if I haven't BANNED them already. ;-)

The last time I PM'ed you about something getting deleted, you didn't respond. Seriously. Not that I really cared that you didn't respond, but you opened yourself up for it
(And the last time something I wrote in politics was banned, I still don't get why)
(edited by Grimis on 27.4.05 1404) I complained to another Liberal friend about some of the Left’s tone concerning the 2004 elections. I thought it insulting to hear those “red state” voters caricatured as red-necked rubes. My friend asked, “Well, don’t you think that people who live in large urban areas, who travel and read and speak other languages are better able to make informed choices?” It turns out it is superiority, not familiarity, which breeds contempt. - Pat Sajak

Very cool. Shades of Beavis & Butthead? I'm excited about the new box set, but I wish they'd be complete seasons as opposed to specific episodes. As soon as I know what's included or taken away from the PSP versions, I'll decide what version to pick up.
