The Philadelphia Phillies traded four minor-league prospects to the Cleveland Indians for starting pitcher Cliff Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco.
Speculation is on as to where Victor Martinez ends up next.

I don't understand why the Indians would let the guy go. He's solid and they're in the worst division in Baseball. Do they really think they can't compete next season?
And, on a related note, have the Phills just become unbeatable in the NL?
Another job well done by the Phillies. The difference between Doc and Cliff Lee is negligible compared to the value Philadelphia will get from Happ alone over the next 3-4 years.

Fausto, Hafner, & Westbrook. What could have been. *sigh*

The Indians may have traded away 2007 AL Cy Young winner CC Sabathia. They may have traded away 2008 AL Cy Young winner, and not good enough to be on the 2007 post-season roster, Cliff Lee. They may have even traded away All-Star catcher Victor Martinez. However, the Indians still have 1 very important ingredient left on their team. That's right, the decisive element of the 2007 ALCS: Joel Skinner. On a somewhat serious note, it is surprising how quickly the Indians imploded from a young team ready to contend for a title for several years to a See You In 2012 franchise. If it was a few years ago and the Central was being decided in the mid to upper 90's, then maybe it could be excusable to be out of the race in June. However, it appears for a second straight years the Indians will be dead early in a race that will be in the mid to upper 80's. How you don't shake up the decision makers at some level with that occurring is questionable.
