Since the O's have totally collapsed over the past month, Raffy getting his 3,000th hit was looking to be the highlight of the season. And now this happens. Unbelievable.
How can he be so stupid as to go before Congress, tell them he doesn't use steroids, and then come back the next year and use steroids? Now his legacy is completely tarnished. As an O's fan, I really wanted to believe that he was the one guy at the Congressional hearings that didn't use steroids. I suppose that was a bit naive. Now the question becomes, is any slugger from this generation clean?

You don't think this might tarnish Raffy's HOF chances, could it? His numbers would seem to indicate otherwise, but since he was never a huge mainstream star, some writers might get all uppity about letting a 'cheat' into Cooperstown.

Oh, you know that's true. Two possible ways it doesn't effect his chances are if this either (1) blows over by the time he's electable, or (2) it becomes som commonplace that no one else would ever, otherwise, get in.

Yes, he may well have perjured himself before Congress. However, the fact that he was found to have used steroids in August doesn't prove that he had used steroids before March. Is it likely? Very. Is it enough to put him in jail? I sure hope not.

um, albert pujols comes to mind when you mention being clean and steroid free. i'm pretty surprised Raffy turned out positive. Also, why the hell are all these guys (Bonds, Raffy) saying that they didn't "intentionally" use steroids? God, that makes me sick.
Well, while it's possible that this is the first time Palmeiro has used steroids and therefore he didn't perjure himself, first off he should have known better than to do it this time, considering he's under considerably more scrutiny than most other baseball players. They wouldn't have called him in to testify, otherwise.
And I imagine that this will probably lead to a more detailed investigation to discover if Palmeiro did, in fact, use steroids prior to his testimony. If they can prove that he did, that's perjury, and I sure as hell hope he goes to jail for it. He shouldn't be able to get off just because he's a professional athlete. I know that if I committed perjury, I'd be going to jail.
They might even be able to get him for contempt of Congress charges, too.

I'd be much more inclined to believe that he had never used steroids and that someone "slipped" him the steroids via drink or "the cream" than that he'd never used them until after he went before Congress.

Canseco was right about him the whole time. Palmeiro was borderline HOF to start, now they can just take McGriff instead. Palmeiro deserves the Martha Stewart treatment. Now that the Nats and O's turned to pumpkins, DC has nothing better to do than drag this out.
His original statment was, "I have never used steroids. Period." His revised statement goes like (I have never intentionally used steroids.) So if he was just blindly popping pills and getting jabbed by needles, his second statement could be truthful, but the first would still be a lie.
As for Giambi, hopefully he's just smart enough to take the kind of steroids they can't detect.
GUys cant keep clinging to the "I never intentionally took any steroids" defense. It was weak before and its weaker now. this steroids investigation has been going on for over two years now. More than ever they should be aware of what they are putting in their bodies. Im not going to believe anymore, if I ever did, that some millionaire ball player is still ingesting or using substances in 2005 without knowing exactly what is is and how it effects him. We cant keep playing stupid.

Take a look at any games from the 70s and earlier. See the body sizes of the "Big Sluggers" of years gone by. Notice the injuries frequently suffered by a "natural" player like Pujols.
Tell me again that he's not juicing?? If you were surprised by Palmeiro, and his career changing numbers from the early 90s, you really don't get it.
