Over here, there is a comedian called Dave Gorman. He set off due to a bet to find 56 "Dave Gorman". He had to have met then, shock their hands and have a photo taken of them.It took him over 3 months and he travelled all over the UK, as well as to New York, Italy and Israel. If you can find his book, it is a very funny read.

I saw him on the Daily Show last year and then recognised him in the "Paris" episode of the 4th Season of Ab Fab.

Having a common name isn't so fun.

I had problems with my Motor Vehicle Administration over my name. Michael Moore. I do not have a middle name. Back in march of 2000 I passed my Motorcycle Safty Foundation course and recieved my certificate to get my M endorcement on my Drivers License. I went to the MVA to update my license and something i cleared up in 1998 came back on their computers.

in 1998 i recieved a letter from the Maryland MVA stating that a Michael Moore who lived in maryland, and had my exact birthday, recieved tickets for driving infractions in Pennsylvania and Illinois. I had to goto the MVA and prove i wasn't the Michael Moore in question.

I got my "proof" letter notorized, copy of my birth cert and social securiety # and faxed it off to the MVA office. They said it was satifatory proof i wasn't the person in question.

fast forward to march 2000. I told the clerk that i had taken care of it, but they said that the unpaid tickets were still unpaid and i had to re-prove i wasn't this person.

I was upset.

The Washington Post has a Traffic guy who takes Q&A. Dr. Gridlock is his name. He is a big traffic dude in these parts and anything in his column usually is passed along to the DC/VA/MD heads of transportation. Except road sign matters...they suck around here...

I wrote Dr. Gridlock about my plight. He was aghast and a little scared. My letter was published, and forwarded to the Head of the MD MVA, and he passed it along to the head of cust services and she met met me at the local MVA office to whip me through the process. she read my previous proof and then at every step we were stopped at, she hit a few buttons and got me though. she also erased me from the "deadbeat unpaid ticket national database" and put a note on my acct saying that if it does pop up again, to ignore it. she also wavied my $25 renewal fee or however much it cost, and waited until i acutally had my new picture taken and my new license in my hands before she left, just in case someone wanted to stop me again.

all that just so i could ride my motorcycle...

later she emailed me saying that PA Michael Moore had a middle name, and the one in IL was black (I am half Japanese, half White). The national database didn't have racial codes, or middle names, so thats why they still stoped me, and also, there are 927 registered drivers in Maryland with the full legal name of "Michael Moore"

if anyone of them screws up and doesn't pay a ticket this could all happen again.

In my letter to the Dr. i even joked that I would change my name to Rikidozan M. Moore [i've been using the alias Rikidozan since 1998, when i abandoned my old alias' i used on BBSs, "Qor"] just to avoid confusion, but he thought it was a little drastic untill i told him about the # of people with my name.

So take it from me, I will not bestow any of my kids [if i have any] with a common name. I was thinking Akira for a boy, and Nobuko for a girl...but that's neither here nor there
I would do Michelle in honor of my dead twin sister, but we'd be back to square one again...

I do searches for my name every month or so, to see where my articles end up (I freelance articles to newspapers and magazines). So far, the following people have my name: The dean of a university in the Midwest, a motorcycle racer in the UK and a porn actor who specializes in gay films. Am I famous or what?

Rikidozan, since you don't have a middle name currently, what's to prevent you from using Rikidozan as your *middle* name? I'll grant that there's plenty of Michael Moores...and probably a few Michael R. Moores...but I can't imagine that there would be more than one Michael Rikidozan Moore. And, if it's your middle name, nobody has to know what it really is. (Though, being of Japanese ancestry, you could always spin some wild story about the origins of Rikidozan and have most anyone believe it.)

I don't use my name, Eric Loy, here because there is a guy reporting to wrestling sites using that name.

However, I can recommend www.ericloy.com, which goes to the site of a really good guitar player from Dayton who is also not me.

I have a counterpart in LA with the same name, same
middle initial but different middle name, and he's a
pastor. My best friend sometimes visits his church
and it's pretty funny.

My wife went through Social Security and found you
can add middle names (e.g. maiden name) pretty easily,
but changing first name is a big hassle - requires
court appearance and lawyers.

the problem with that is that they don't use middle initials in the national database, so it would be moot to just add one. I still would come up on their search...

yeah, i know, they should add social, race [if given], middle initial, but the gov. doesn't do things the way you and i do

*sigh*

The only semi-famous "Matt Hocking", I can find is some soccer player in England, who I imagine is the best ever, because he and I share a name.

Of course, being from Minnesota, I get asked all the time if I'm related to Twins player Denny Hocking. I also know there's a Hocking County in Ohio, which I'm dying to visit. Oh, I think there might be a guitar player named Matt Hocking, but don't quote me on that one.

Since everyone else is doing it (ok, not EVERYONE, but...)

Vikings (0-3) - Looking like a sad year to be a Vikes, fan, and only getting by on my hate for the Rams and...
Badgers (5-0) - The fact that, despite the fact that we looked like crap against friggin' Northern Illinois, we killified Arizona and are close to being bowl bound.
Twins (90-66) - I have no delusions of granduer, but this certainly makes up for being a fan during all the "lean years".

I got suckered into watching WX0 at 1am when they came out just because I saw that "I" was scheduled to wrestle that night.

I went to the website and saw Chris Nelson described as "he makes me think of a young Mick Foley", so I was obviously psyched to see my namesake.

When he came on TV not only did he job terribly, but "he makes me think he ATE a young Mick Foley". Oh well...

I'm the only one I've ever seen online with my real name. Then again, it helps that my last name is EXTREMELY Polish. Of course, last time I checked, it was Polish for "sit"... think of how it must feel to go to your grandfather's church and see your name in the hymnal, and then when they get to it, everyone sits down.

My name (rare enough that I've never met another one) on google comes up with the following, some of whom could be the same guy:

- An amateur middleweight strongman
- Someone who played soccer for SUNY Cortland two years ago
- A teacher in the Canandaigua NY school system
- A chess player from Jefferson, Missouri
- A student who stole $1500 worth of costumes from a touring broadway show.
- A dining service manager at a sports arena in Alabama.

and me, a New York based comedy writer. Of course.

(The first person to private message me my name gets three bucks.)

And my fiancee's name alwasy seems to link to hand drawn fantasy art of a naked elf woman kidnapped by a lecherous dragon. Bizarre, no?

Opinions have been sanitized for your sanity...
Here are the Ryan Pike namesakes that are found on Google:

-Everett, WA resident & Lynnview High graduate
-former Barry Town football (read: soccer) player
-former Blaine football/basketball/baseball player (Bellvue, WA native)
-3rd grade teacher in Sunnyside Elementary in Washington
-Northern Adirondack wrestler
-Saco, Maine little league baseball star
-Columbiana Auxilary Police member
-Ohio road runner
-Sandwich, Maine resident & Titanic fan
-Campbell River, BC resident & bowler
-ringbearer at a Northwest Florida wedding [Ramsey/Murphy]
-TKE: Rho Upsilon inaugural vice-president

Crazy, eh?

My biggest worry is having others with my name be more successful than I am...

CRZ says I can save the three bucks by putting him over as the guy who got my name.

It's a fact, I am Rumplestiltskin. How he figured it out is beyond me, but the man does have some stroke around here.

Well done.

I typed "Chris Fothergill-Brown" into Google.

I promptly found a whole bunch of wrestling sites. Seems this fellow reviews wrestling tapes.

Other than that - none apparently exist.

Hocking County, Ohio?

You're not missing anything.

As for people with my name, there's some Purdue student who wants to be an astronaut and keeps getting new websites and there's an elementary school teacher. Who knew there was a Mr. BobHollySTILLRules out there? I was shocked! SHOCKED!

"Famous" people with my name.
1. Placed second in a national indoor archery tournament in 2000.
2. Cooking professor at TCU.
3. An orthodontist in Conneticut.
Well, I am suprised there was that many. My name is very Polish. But it doesn't mean sit or anything funny. It just has something to do with blacksmithing.
