I applaud everyone's decision not to start a thread about Oakland, since such a move would surely have been bad karma and ended their streak long before now.

But the Twins took them out tonight, though they need the Homer Hankies to do it.

I'm waiting on October to judge the A's. Not a fan, not a hater, but Zito is a cool ass mothertrucker and a awesome pitcher(who might be AL Cy Young).

I just find it funny that after the streak they were still only 3 games ahead in the division, and I think only two games now. They've got about a month left in the season.. so I hope they didn't waste their gas on this streak.

On a side note: Zito has my vote for AL Cy Young.

I don't know why, but it is sooooo easy to hate the A's. Fan of big-market team (my Yanks) jealous of little-market team? I dunno, but Tejada, Chavez, Koch, and Durham...I don't like any of 'em. I like to look at them as the moment's bee-yotch to the Yanks, as the Rangers have been, as the Orioles have been, as Seattle has been, and as the A's will surely be this year. 20 in a row is awsome, and having the season they are having w/o Jason, Jason, and Damon, my hat is off to 'em. Their rotation is ferocious, no doubt, but I like my chances against them with my lineup and Rocket, Moose, Andy, Duque, and Boomer. Zito is cool, but as far as coolness goes, he ain't no Boomer.

Izzy is hurt right now, and was really shaky in Oakland. Damon didn't do much with them last year (not near the season he's having this year + his knee is banged up too). Of course, losing Giambi still stings like a big dog.

What has happened to Moose this year? He has pitched well 2 of his last 3 starts but by and large he has sucked most of this season, I believe his ERA is up above 4.50 and was hovering near 5.0 before his last start against the Red Sox, and the one today. Pettite is old and injured, Rocket is old but wily. Boomer just got attacked by a guy with a butterknife. You didn't mention the sixth starter, Weaver, but he's been shaky ever since he donned the pinstripes. Plus, he's never pitched in the postseason before, let alone a postseason under New York's media scrutiny. I'd rather have Huddy, Mulder, and Zito right now than 4/6's of the Yankees rotation

MONO-SYLLIBALISM: ON!

Argh! Me no like Yankees. They too big. Too much money. Too many titles. Me like A's. And M's. And Blue Jays. Me Canadian, so me like Blue Jays out of duty. And hate Expos. Funny that. World Series this year will be Yankess and D-Backs, again. Yankees winning due to big money spending. Damn Yankees. New CBA changes nothing. *SIGH*

MONO-SYLLIBALISM: OFF!

Any-hoo, The A's streak was cooler than ice on a hot sunny day, but they prolly spent all their efforts on this streak...and not on the playoffs. Sad, but probably true.

Okay, let's review your rotation (because too much Yankee bashing is never enough):

Clemens: Just turned 40, not the same. Still good, but not great anymore.
Mussina: He'll be solid.
Pettite: Pitches like crap, he's nothing if not for your huge run support.
Duque: Sucks ass in the regular season... only turns it on in the playoffs.
Wells: Got his teeth punched in by someone waving a BUTTER KNIFE. And you call him cooler than Zito? No matter what, that assault pretty much puts him behind anyone by default.

Could also include:

Weaver: HA!
Hitchcock: Nice to see you forgot about him.

I hear Lima's available, though.

As for the A's you called out by name:

Tejada: There is no Big Three anymore at SS, it's the Big Four. Riiiiight.
Durham: .400 OBP guy, and you don't want that in your lineup?
Koch: 30 saves each of his first 4 seasons, IIRC. Certainly an improvement over half the closers out there.
Chavez: Once again, going to be (if not already) one of the top 3B in the AL.

Face it, jfkfc: Your team was one ridiculous play away from leaving in the ALDS. (I'm not mentioning my team because... well, it's too easy of a target. 'Specially for Yankee fans.)

Freeway: See, the thing is the new revenue-sharing deal REALLY doesn't change much for cheap small-market owners. They'll reinvest the money into their wallets.

I didn't say the aforementioned Chavez, Koch, Tejada, and Durham weren't quality (good quality at that), I just said "I don't like any of 'em." Lots of players I don't like exist, but those four make me hate the A's.

Clemens - so easy to say he isn't what he used to be, when he used to be one of the best pitchers who has ever played the game. When he is on, as he is in big spots, there are not many pitchers playing today I would rather have. "Still good" is an understatement, and name me a better 40-year-old pitcher, please.

Mussina - has been up and down. If he had this year's run support last year, he might have won 28 games. That said, I was telling my wife 12 hours ago that if he had last year's run support this year, he would have 3 wins. I will take a rolling Mussina ANY DAY OF THE WEEK over any pitcher in the American League other than Pedro.

Pettitte. I have to see your words against my most favorite-est pitcher since Louisiana Lightning? "Pitches like crap"??? Seriously, pot is not legal. 9-5 with a three and a half ERA? I will be the first to say that Andy has pitched way under par at times, but with a three and a half ERA for the season? I will take Andy Pettitte over Lowe, Washburn, Hudson, Zito, Maddux, Glavine, Clemens, ummm...and Mussina (sorry Moose, I should have thought of Andy last paragraph). I am a little worried about his health, but nothing else to worry with this guy.

Duque and Wells have both been solid this season. I am not sure of what, in your opinion, "sucks ass" in the regular season, but if you give me an 8-4 pitcher with a three and a half ERA, and then tell me that this 8-4 pitcher is TEN times as good in the post season....think about it, OK?

With the Wells-Diner incident - granted, a butter knife is no hatchet, but if you are going to tell me that you wouldn't call 911 at 5 in the morning with some fucked-up guy waving a butter knife in your face, you are either:

a) wearing armor
b) Mick Foley
c) fucked-up yourself
d) a member of the NYPD
e) armed

and Wells was none of the above. He is still cool.

Weaver - I didn't mention him because he isn't a regular starter, and was not acquired to be a regular starter this year. Same with Sterling Hitchcock, who might not even be on the PS roster. I have no love for either.

Let us just get one thing crystal clear, however: In the same breath that you say "Your team was one ridiculous play away from leaving in the ALDS", make sure you acknowledge the fact that the Yanks were probably two Mariano saves away from winning 6 titles in a row (last year, and Alomar's HR in '97).

Bash away, Yankee-haters, I am cool with it. Trash-talking is a sport as is baseball. I know every member of Weinerville is a closet Yankee fan, I know it. With most of you, it is tough admitting it, sorta like admitting to liking "Staying Alive", Kevin Costner, or peanut-butter, grape jelly, and hard-boiled egg sandwiches.

Seriously, if you haven't tried that sandwich, do it, don't be scared!

I love your logic. Thank you for telling me my opinion is wrong.

Also, let me know when you gather a list of any of the AL pitchers I listed and the big games they pitched well in.

I apologize for making such an ambiguous statement. I meant that "your chance of winning the game would thus be decreased."

I'll give you Lowe and Washburn, because they only have one year, but the other ones have proven over the length of their careers that they are better than Pettitte, and it's really pretty obvious. All of the ones who have a good amount of postseason experience have performed well, and I don't believe that there are more than a couple of "chokers" or "clutch gods" in baseball, so you would expect the others, given sufficient postseason time, to be better than Pettitte, as they were during the regular season. So.

I find it awesome that now the Anaheim Angels are shooting for a winning streak of their own. They're already halfway there. Of course, to do it, they'd have to sweep...the Oakland A's, ironically enough.

This should be a very interesting series!

Lowe: You may be right on him. I'm not sold yet (relievers turned starters tend to fade after hot starts), but we'll see how he does during the stretch.

Washburn: Agreed.

Hudson: Underrated for awhile, but now he's finally come into the limelight for what he is; a solid pitcher. I'd take him over Pettitte.

Zito: The future is now. I'd take him over Pettitte.

Maddux: Best. Ever. Period.

Glavine: Pettitte over GLAVINE? There's only three others I'd pick over Tom Glavine (The Big Two from Arizona and the pitcher above).

Clemons: I don't like Clemon's personality on the field, but there's no mistaking he has the stats and the past.

I can admit to liking "staying alive". I'll just take your word on the sandwich(although someday I might try and work up the courage to try it.) But never.....NEVER will I be colored as a Yankees fan. IM not one of them people who bitch and moan about the fact that NY has too much money and buys championships. No....its not like that. See its much, much simpler than that. There is only one true qualifier to be a natural Yankee hater.....

...Im from Boston
Note: I understand that your post was meant in humor, I am not actually offended by the idea of being called a Yankee lover.

on the topic though, congrats to the A's on the streak, even if it did bitch slap the Sox's Chances of making the Post season.

How can one expect that? How can you sit there and say (or type) that you expect Hudson and Zito to be better in the postseason than AP? Do you also expect them to be better in the postseason than Wells and Duque? I am not trying to say either pitcher sucks, or will suck in the playoffs, but one can't just expect that kind of a performace from a pitcher.

Whazzat? Greg Maddux is the best pitcher ever? He is a HOF pitcher, but best ever? Please think about that.

Understand that the pitchers mentioned by me, and taking Pettitte over them - at least 75% of that statement is because AP is a favorite of mine. Rocket and Moose, whereas I like them and root for them because they wear the pinstripes....well, they would be my most despised pitchers with a different uniform on. If I was offered a trade straight up for Hudson or Zito for AP, I would be an idiot for not making that deal, with age and salary being a factor. Glavine and Maddux are terrific HOF'ers-to-be, as is Rocket, but if the season hinged on a game today, one game, AP is my man.

Bubbles, thanks for taking the "everyone loves the Yanks" comment for what it was. Everyone likes to stir the pot here and there. Try the sandwich though.

If the season was to be decided on ONE game (say, if the division was tied up and there was a playoff) I'd take Arizona's two, Maddux, and Glavine. That said, he is a good pitcher, and I wouldn't throw off my rotation if I had him on a fantasy league team, and he's definitly a number one starter. Out of the ones you mentioned, Maddux, Glavine, and Clemons would be the two people I'd start over him in a one game setting.

As for Maddux, I've thought about it.

My point remains; best ever. PBI.

We can certainly agree to disagree. I haven't seen Sandy K, The Big Train, Christy Matthewson, Cy Young, and other HOF's pitch, but I wouldn't put him over them even based on stats. I would put him in the HOF, first ballot of course, but that said, (IMO) I would take the career of The Rocket over Greggie-Poo. I still hold a grudge over him not signing with the Yanks in '95(or '94?), but at least they signed Jimmy Key, and everyone loves Jimmy Key.

That said, if Maddux was traded tomorrow to my Yanks (let's say for......Hitchcock), he would be my 3rd starter behind Rocket and Dandy Andy.
