0. Did you read this thread before the PPV started?

Are you buying the AEW PPV tonight? Why or why not?

Props to AEW as I think they have done a pretty good job of making people interested in a PPV in 2021. I am ALMOST surprised a predictions thread didn't materialise here just to see what kind of response it would get.

I'm still gonna watch the Southern 500 but I might throw back myself and explore the BitTorrent options if I manage to sufficiently avoid spoilers, but I also think I'll probably be on Twitter tonight so that'll be nigh on impossible. I still have a few hours to mull over my options, at least.

No. I’ve been spoiled by the network and 10 dollars a month on PPVs, and I think that their current buzz is driven more by who they are signing next rather than the in ring product.

I can’t remember the last time I have been this tempted to buy PPV. I’m 99% sure I will not, mostly because I too am spoiled by once having The Network. This actually looks more enjoyable than most of the WWE offerings during that time, but not enough to drop $50 on.

If you don't count the Network, I have no idea the last time I actually paid for a PPV, but Tony Khan got me to open my wallet for tonight. That nerd from Chicago got me legitimately excited about something in wrestling for the first time in far too long.

It did get me to buy it, for the first time in years.

Got my money’s worth after the cage match between the Bucks and the Lucha Brothers.

The MJF / Jericho match was utterly brilliant as well.

And currently watching some guy from Chicago, and another match after this!

Hands down one of the best PPVs I’ve ever watched. Absolutely worth every penny of the $50.

I did not see this thread before the show, but no, I didn't shell out for it. Even without all the surprises (most of which were not actually very surprising, if we're all being honest [which doesn't mean they weren't good though - they were!]) this was a good - no, great card. But $50 for three hours of entertainment is a bad deal guys. We never should have let companies get the number up that high.

I also didn't see this thread until after.

Y'all bet your sweet asses I bought it. I've been buying all their PPVs since the beginning. I had tickets for AEW Dynamite in Las Vegas April 2020, which was cancelled for Covid. And if they ever get around to getting back to the western half of North America, I'll do my damnedest to get to that live as well.

I'm a huge AEW fan. I find their product to be sooo verrrrry much better than WWE's really ever was, & that includes the olden days when I'd buy every PPV (for as much as $50 a pop), & go to every live show that I could (for $50-$200+ per seat) -- & there were a *lot* of those.

I've completely given up on WWE. Which is sad. There a still a very few remaining wrestlers whom I like & are still there, but they're being so aquandered. And the older Vince gets, the more he wants to push people that I really just can't stand.
I get Peacock for free, & still haven't so much as FF'd through anything since WM -- & there was only about an hour of that that I actually watched.

You betcha I'm All In. :-)

Yes to almost all of this. RAW & SD! have become background noise for us lately. I said basically that exact same thing to my wife the other week - there's almost no one I care about watching on RAW currently but all my least faves are there now (Lashley is such a bore and an immediate channel changer). SD! has Sami, KO, Becky again, Bianca... so I'll pay more attention to that.

I flip to the Phillies all the time during it. Last night I watched a chunk of a Simpsons rerun I've seen at least 20 times rather than see JoMo and his phallic water guns.

We get Peacock for free with Comcast so Vince isn't even getting my $10/month anymore.

Goldberg *again* plus Saudi Arabia plus the general glazed-over feeling of their shows x All Out really tipped the scales for me. And we'll see what the heck they do to NXT this month and find out if that falls into the malaise of the other two shows.

I basically felt this way, although my only reluctance was because the guy from Chicago wasn’t in a title match. I did not give in last minute though, but I was close to doing it. I am/was also spoiled by the Network, so spending that money seems wasteful to my wallet. Now that two of my other favorites are also in AEW(Cole, AmDrag), I might not be able to talk myself out of it anymore.

If the main-event had been the rumored "Hangman" Adam Page v. Kenny Omega match, I would have.

Given how the final segment of the show went, I regret not buying it. It sounded very worth it. (Plus--It was hard to say no to Lucha Brothers in a cage.)

I was shocked to realize that in this day and age there's still the classic 50$ ppv.
I never think of it that way because well, I'm in Europe.
I get the wwe network so that's all good and I find other shows through eeh.. other methods.

The last few years my wrestling interest waned.
I stoppd watching Raw/SD because it takes so much time, instead watch the promos leading up to the "ppv" which I watch socially with friends.
I watch NXT every week still and keep an eye on NJPJW and AEW for the bigger events or matches.
G1 coming up, yay!

Right now, AEW has all the momentum and if I lived in the USA and had the choice to watch All Out live I probably would have. The card was very solid and turned out to be really great.
The next ppv I would buy for sure. That one has the potential to be stacked from top to bottom.
Possibly Hangman vs Omega. More fun with Punk, Danielson, Cole, Lucha Bros, Bucks, Andrade, Pac etcetc. Oh my.

Page is out on paternity leave (gasp - what a concept in America) so I'm sure they'll circle back around to that story pretty soon...

A couple of thoughts for your consideration:

Among the things I love about AEW is that they really know how to use their senior people sooo effectively, especially to develop & enhance their younger talent. The guy from Chicago doesn't *need* a title. He's there to be awesome, & get to do all the fun stuff that he had shit-kicked out of him at his previous employer. That was a great match, just like pairing Sting as a mentor for Darby has been perfectly awesome.

In general, AEW is much bigger on "the journey", & the long-range planning & story-telling. They don't book a capricious title match or change just to try to pop a PPV buy rate. They spend months & longer doing the build to make everything important. It really is a "Paradigm Shift".

And regarding the money ... As far as the money & value is concerned ... "Spoiled by the network" was $120 per year. That alone would cover 2-1/2 $50 AEW shows per year. (And that's not even getting into a quality or content comparison.) Jus' sayin' ...

I thought it was supposed to be live outside the US on FiteTV. No?

And if you keep an eye on NJPW, what'd you think about the *other* suprise? Kojima vs Moxley was an "interesting" choice, but "business picked up" at the end of that one, didn't it? :-)

Ok, I admit I'm lazy and never looked into options for FiteTV for Europe

I really enjoyed the surprise.
Stuff like this, having people from other promotions show up, really helps the momentum of "maybe I should watch more AEW"
I'm not sure if things like this move the needle but it sucks fans of other promotions and styles in.
And by then doing the match on Dynamite it puts more eyes on the regular product as well. Smart booking & business plan.

I hate how obsessed wrestling fans/dirt sheets (and "Demo God" Chris Jericho) are with the TV ratings...but...

I believe your international hookup for the 2 weekly shows would be Click Here (fite.tv). (That's blocked for me in the US, at TNT's behest.) I don't know if your PPV replays are in that page, or somewhere else on Fite.

Y'know, that'd include the Moxley / Minoru Suzuki follow-up from the PPV. :-)
