The worst-kept secret in pro wrestling was true and CM Punk created one of the most emotional, raw and authentic moments in the biz in ages on AEW Rampage last night. Certainly I don't remember anything feeling that 'real' in a long time, especially with WWE being so by-the-books for ages.
Punk is my 2nd fave of all time (after that AEW guy who's been making questionable decisions off TV for the past few years). On the one hand, after everything he's been through, physically and mentally (much of it by his own doing...the lawsuit, UFC) (speaking of that lawsuit, "Hey Colt Cabana!" Guess they're coworkers again.), the guy deserves to stay healthy and happy. Enjoy your life with your wife & dog and do whatever creative stuff makes you happy.
On the other hand, he had the most underwhelming end to his career to retire on. Dumped out of the Royal Rumble (by Kane?) and that's that! See ya forever! I saw a tweet saying his final singles match was vs. Billy Gunn(?). So he also deserves to have a proper final run on his own terms.
That's my rambling getting-my-two-cents-off-my chest - your thoughts?
(Edit: oops, wrong hashtag, they use #AllElite nowadays)
I had no idea this was happening. I'm removed from current wrestling because I have no interest in it.
A friend of mine posted on FB last night at 9:05ish 'It's great to hear Cult of Personality on TV again. I immediately knew what it meant, and found the correct channel in time for it ... to fade to black.
Luckily, I stuck around after the break to see the mic work. Very, very cool. And hey - free ice cream bars for everyone as they leave. How the hell is that for a long term payoff??
I'm excited to see the next phase of CM Punk's career, and see him working with a young guy like Darby Allin. I want to see him kick the shit out of MJF sometime.
